After speaking with current midshipmen about going to the Army on active duty from USMMA they told me graduates guaranteed mos choice. So basically if I wanted to be an army infantry officer on active duty am i guaranteed this?

I don't believe that this is true. IF USMA, ROTC and OCS graduates are all branched according to an OML(order of merit list) - I have a hard time believing that USMMA is going to guarantee you your branch of choice. BTW - although I have no data to support this-I would suspect that the vast majority of KP graduates in the Army are Transportation Officers. I would however believe that what they meant was that you are guaranteed to go active duty vs Reserve duty if you requested it- this is similar to what the Army guarantees Senior Military College (SMC) ROTC graduates.

I'm not sure even West Point could guarantee an MOS. It seems to me that they choose by class ranking and the folks at the bottom are stuck with whatever is left over.

The Army does offer the option of accepting extra years of service to get one of your choice branches, though, so that gives you some leeway.

It's likely that all MOSes are open to you, not that you are guaranteed your choice.

Word was that when I was at KP, the army only took you into Transportation. I recall someone who wasn't even allowed to put in for infantry.

My underdtanding is that 1) All MOS are open to Kings Pointers; 2) The OML is indeed used, as it is everywhere, though Kings Pointers generally fare well on that, and 3) there is a new program for those going Army that is also very good and open only to Kings Pointers, though I don't know the details.

All this information would best be clarified by the Active Duty Army Officer onboard the Academy who is the primary liason to that service. I suggest you look up or otherwise obtain their email and contact them with your specific question(s).

The total amount of slots available for the year is solid so if someone adds service for a branch they are still taking a slot from that branch that will not be available for a classmate so not everyone ends up being able to get what they want even if they all theoretically added service.

goalie1, I am sure whoever told you that just meant all options are open and not that they are guaranteed the branch of their choice.

From my experience, as long as you apply early and tell the liaison officer what you want early they will reserve a slot for you in whatever MOS you want. For comparison Navy offered only 5 Pilot slots this year and Army is offering slots to everyone who applied and even has slots left over...just as an example. But if you want to be an infantry officer then more than likely you got it. And from what I hear for KP MIDN applying for Army they want Kings Pointers so bad that they will give you basically any MOS you want. The idea is since KP graduates people in every branch of service we have more of what the Army wants in inter-service cooperation. But bottom line KP has a great Army program and if you want to be infantry or whatever you can get it.
