Hello =). I just received an appointment a few days ago and I think I might run into a predicament. I am a high school senior, but I am also a full-time student at our local college. I will be graduating with an Associates in General Studies in Science on May 15th... and then from high school on May 28th. I am interested to know if any of my credits will transfer, especially since I completed the full degree. If anyone has any insight, please let me know! Thank you.

They may or may not; the ONLY folks that can tell you anything at this point would be the counselors at USAFA.

Give yours a call; you should have their name/phone. And do NOT be surprised if you have to leave a message; they're VERY busy. But they WILL get back with you!

Also, to piggyback on Steve's comment, realize that there is a difference in some people's definition of "Transfer Credits".

Let me say it in the simplest of layman terms. The academies DON'T TRANSFER CREDITS. Not in the sense that most people consider transfer. The easiest way to explain it is: You could come to the academy already with a PHD in nuclear fission, and you're STILL going to take ALL 4 years of classes at the Air Force Academy. Think I'm kidding? There ARE people who have attended the academy with pretty much a B.S/B.S completed, and they STILL had to take a full 4 years of classes.

Now, depending on the college classes that you took, the academy may allow you to skip certain prerequisites or other classes, in which cases you'll simply be taking other classes. Maybe you'll then have time to take a double major, take different classes, etc... So yes, you can have some college classes count for you, but it doesn't shorten your stay at the academy. And you're still going to be taking all the classes the academy tells you to take. But you may be able to free up some classes so you can take other classes and such. Some people think they can actually finish the academy "Earlier" than 4 years. No, that's not an option.

But as Steve mentioned, definitely contact your counselor. They have seen it all before. They can tell you what can and can't be done. Like I said, you could have a complete B.S/B.A degree, and you're STILL going to spend a complete 4 years in classes at the academy. Best of luck. Mike...

I also entered USAFA with an Associates.

It is very hard to validate courses with prior college credit. I ended up validating English 111, behavioral science, and entered at a higher language level.

You need to have an A in a college course in order for it to validate. And it's not automatic- I had to go to the registrar and see which credits would validate courses.

Thanks guys... yeah, I definitely anticipated all of that. And Mike, I had no intentions of trying to get out early or anything, I just thought it may be a bummer to have to retake a bunch of courses that I've already completed. I was hoping to be able to take other courses instead. My college transcript is a 4.0 so hopefully they'll take at least some. Thank you!

I'm sure they will. There's lot of cadets who have been able to validate classes with AP/IB high school classes. So as was mentioned, when you get there, they will mention these things to you.

FWIW: Those who know me, realize that I write comments many times to the 3rd person. In other words, I try to also answer questions that the lurker who is reading your thread and has similar questions might ask. I find it's better to expand the thread than to have 10 separate threads all asking similar questions. From your original post, I didn't think that you thought you could graduate the academy early. However, there are plenty of people out there that think you can. As well as their AP/IB/College Classes automatically being transferable like most colleges. I was just elaborating for the others. mike....
