Hi all. I have a stupid question. I know a few of the new things that the 4/c is allowed but what is the full list of new practices or non-practices allowed? New shoulder boards? Squaring? Sleep in the open? What's new?

the basic big ones are: no squaring, no saluting 1/C, can walk and talk anywhere they please, no having to run, can sleep at any time, phones anytime, etc... i don't know the full extent, but those are the big ones. :D

Forgive my ignorance, but "sleep in the open?"

Plebes are not allowed to sleep in there rooms during the day. Following recognition 4/C can. It means they can actually get back in their racks and take a nap rather then pretending to be studying and cat napping at their desks with a book for a pillow, or such action. Not that I think any of your kids ever did that, I'm they aren't "scofflaws" like I was wayback in 1978....

Ha! My DS especially liked one of his rooms/desk because it was configured such that he could manuever so that he couldn't be seen from the door, and could take a cat nap much easier. Some things never change!

I think there are some extra privileges in the dining hall, too, but don't know exactly what they are, and I think they are also now officially allowed to have "goodie boxes" and to buy snacks and such at the Nex, etc.

The best story I ever heard was of the plebe who was able to curl up in one of his drawers and then close it so he could get some sleep. :thumb:

I heard one that was epic! This one plebe decided to take a nap in his closet, but didn't realize that a sneak inspection was going to occur. From what I heard the CC was there. When they came to his room, they opened his closet door. The plebe awoke from his sound snooze and exclaimed, " Shut the ****ing door!!! I'm trying to sleep!"

honestly, another privledge that is being changed this year is wearing your backpack to class since they issued us regular backpacks this year instead of the usual briefcase-looking kp bags.

Yes, I recall our DS telling us that they weren't allowed to wear their backpacks on their backs - only 1st classmen were allowed to do that. I thought that was pretty stupid, but whatever (there are lots of stupid things at KP).

I think my DS has pillows and blankets stashed all over the campus! :shake: Maybe next year's plebes will find them and continue the undercover naps. My DS was especially resourceful. I have a feeling he was the "drawer napper". I know that the ability to sleep for about an hour each day will be a welcome relief. Congratulations to the Class of 2013. The word is that you are a great bunch of kids.

Beyond recognition ... so many questions from 2013 parents-
How do we address mail & packages to our newly non-plebes?:yay::yay::yay:

i dont think theyre actually going to change that one, seeing as it has been a 1st class priveledge for so long. my bet is that we'll be carrying them until the start of 3/c year, and we'll probably get "one strap" priveleges then.

"81. Fourth class may use the straps on their backpacks. BOTH straps must be used. "

Directly from the SOC

They are midshipmen now. Everything else in the address remains the same.

Yes, some of us need explicit instructions-
It was: Plebe D/S last Name
Address
Do we put: Midshipman D/S Last Name
or D/S Last Name 4/C ?

Thank you again for clarification. details, details...

Our DS said they get to drinks soda. No more sip stealing.
