What exactly is a campus based scholarship? Is it the same as the scholarship everyone else has been awarded? Does it carry the same "perks"?

As far as the scholarship itself all of the relevant aspects (tuition, books, stipend, commitment length, etc.) are exactly the same, per the ROO at goaliegirl's school.

The differences are that first, it is only good at the school offering it and second there are some differences in how the paperwork is shuffled through Cadet Command and DoDMERB. Remedials and Disquals are handled through the unit with a campus-based scholarship as opposed to directly with DoDMERB, although I understand (not yet experienced) that the paperwork gets handled the same way by DoDMERB.

One last difference is that multiple schools can offer you different scholarships (4-year, 3-year AD) at different times with different (sometimes shorter) acceptance deadlines. If you do accept one of the campus-based scholarship offers, you will be removed from further consideration for a national scholarship once the unit files the paperwork with Cadet Command.

If you receive an offer you like, by all means take it. :thumb:

Congratulations...are campus based scholarships applied for separately or is that something the college decides to do when you apply? Craig

AROTC campus-based scolarships are part of the same application. Some schools have them to award and the Cadre at the Unit decides which of the applicants who have listed the school in their application will get them. Generally, they will go to students who have the school listed as high on the applicant list, as the school wants to be certain that the applicant will accept.

That being said, if you have been touching base with the ROO at your top schools, they will have you on their radar if they have a campus-based scholarship to offer.

Exactly what goaliedad said. When the PMS called me he said he had to be 100% sure that my son would go there as if he offered the scholarship and my son decided not to go, then they lose that scholarship and can not offer it to anyone else!!

This is the best news I could have ever hoped for. Being a single mom to him has been such a blessing, and this jsut makes me proud to have him as my son!!
