A case of the minnow going after the shark here ?! I think about 30 years ago there was a similar movie out- "The Island" in which pirates took down a Coast Guard Cutter. Apparently a bad career move for these pirates :

NAIROBI -- A U.S. Navy warship exchanged fire with suspected Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean early Thursday, the latest salvo in a growing international effort to curb piracy in one of the world's most strategically important shipping lanes.

Shortly after midnight, the suspected pirates fired on the USS Nicholas west of the Seychelles Islands in an apparent attempt to seize the ship and hold it for ransom. ...

Why is it so hard for people to not mess with us? First time they took over an American flagged vessel, and...

Why would they really try to attack a U.S. Navy warship?

This is hilarious. They probably thought big ship= big$$$. I could hear them now, "ooh look, its made of metal, and it has a lot of guns :shake: we should try to take it." hahaha

I'm thinking it went more like this:

Samir: "Captain, there's a big ship off the port bow...LOTS of money to be had...what say we go for it?"

Achmed: "Seaman Samir...excellent idea...man the RPG and get the other 3 guys up with their AK-74P rifles...we'll show this western fool the power of our team!

<<<<...speeds up the boat...lots of wild cheering...>>>>

Achmed: "Crew, fire the RPG...that will convince him to slow down and we can board and make millions of yankee dollars!"

<<<<...sound of small arms fire, 5.45 x 39mm, AK fire...>>>>
<<<<...WHOOOSHING sound of RPG rocket leaving tube>>>>

<<<<KLAXON GOING OFF>>>>

ATTENTION ON DECK ATTENTION ON DECK, GENERAL QUARTERS, SURFACE ACTION PORT...COMMENCE FIRE 5" mount!

<<<SEVERAL LARGE ROUNDS FIRED>>>

Achmed: "OH THIS IS NOT GOOD...NOT GOO......"

<<<<sounds of loud explosions>>>>

NOW ALL HANDS MAN RESCUE STATIONS, SET THE WATCH...

Obviously I'm not a Navy type, so I'm sure the commands are sorta wrong but the idea...

You forgot the "approval from Washington to defend the ship" call. This is 2010.

Ahh...you see, THAT is why I'm an AF pilot.

Shoot at me...I WILL shoot at you! :rocket:

Washington...nah...some nice JAG/Intel/OG/WG types will have me SO briefed on the ROE (rules of engagement) and I'll have taken test after test after test, certified to every Colonel known to exist in the AOR AND the CONUS...

And then...me and my trusty steed...we'll take flight to do battle with our nations' foes!

Or in this case, at least get my STRAFE requirements completed for the semester! :guns4:

And here I was thinking military life, specifically life in JAG was like the TV show JAG. You know, if it's the right thing to do, do it, and Commander Rabb would fly in in a Tomcat to defend you...or shoot up the courtroom ceiling trying

You will soon find that no good can come from consulting legal....

It's best just to leave them in the dark.:thumb:

Regardless of who finds out, it takes an immense amount of pure stupidity to attack a U.S. Navy ship. Esp. for a few pirates in a rinky dinky dinghy. At least those guys are off the waters! :thumb:

This isn't the USS Nicholas, but another fine example of what happens when you mess with the United States Navy
