This type of thing came up with the USAFA application too. The preliminary application for USNA opened up on Thursday. I think I read somewhere that if you submit an application for NASS you don't need to submit a preliminary application.

Now for USAFA, a lot of people submitted one anyway and it basically just had you answer a few more questions that weren't in the AFASS application. So is this the same with USNA? Should I go ahead and submit a preliminary application?

If you have already sent in an application for Summer Seminar, you do not need to complete a preliminary application, as the first one serves the same purpose.

With USAFA we just updated our existing application, because we were able to log into it and look at everything and update anything if we needed to.

But for USNA, we sent in our apps for SS and they're gone; we don't get a page that we can log back into to look at everything and update. I saw the pre-can app for USNA and it was very very very similar to the SS app, but it doesn't have anything new. USAFA had a couple more questions on the pre-can but USNA pre-can app doesn't have anything extra at all. So I wouldn't send in another one since we already sent in the SS app.

Sorry, forgot to say that my post only pertains to USNA. I do not know what the policy is at the other service academies.

Same policy I believe for any academy, if you sent in SS app it counts as preliminary application. However with the SS app for USAFA, there's a page you can log into to check the status of your SS acceptance but when March hit, we were able to use the same information to log into our pre-candidate application on a separate page and it already had most of our information filled out already along with our application status.

I know this is off the navy topic, but where did you find the pre-candidate application?
