Instead of getting a job at a local restaurant or retail store, which is difficult to hold down due to the sporadic nature of my extracurricular activities schedule, I usually help my dad out renovating houses. Would I be able to list his company as an employer? It is a fully incorporated business.

My dad's an attorney and I worked as an assistant in his office for a few months when his secretary had surgery and again when she was on vacation. I put it on my resume.

Yeah. When in doubt, put it on. The worst they can do is ignore it.

Does anyone know how much they take into account work experience? Because obviously, having a full-time or part-time job will limit time for athletics and extra-curricular activities.

How do I add this into my profile that I work...I have been working for 1.5 years and would like to show that I have been working along with my activities and school work...

freedomtruck - I don't know how much work experience is taken into account, but it will have a positive impact on your application regardless. I know it's tough to manage academics, sports, leadership roles, etc., but it can be done. Time management is huge and will help you tremendously in any of your future endeavors.

Is there an actuall category for working on the extra curriculars?

It's been some time since my son filled out his questionnaire, but there is something about work experience in there. I think it asks how many hours per week and the time period you've worked. Don't quote me on that though  ... it could have been another application I recall, but either way having work experience is a good thing.

ill contact admissions either tomorrow or friday to see whats up...

Yes the extracurricular form that comes with the second step kit in August asks about work experience. You also have to have a form completed by your boss which evaluates how you have performed on the job.

What if you don't have a boss? I'm a soccer referee and I'll work anywhere from 4-8 hours a week, which I think is enough to mention, even if it's not a lot. There's a referee coordinator who makes sure all the games are full, but she doesn't really know me and I've only talked to her a few times. I definitely wouldn't feel comfortable asking her to fill out a form for WP.

Similar situation here. I started my own lawn/farm hand business kind of thing. While it's not much during the week, I can have saturdays where I get 8 hours just right there. How would that form work for me since I am my own boss?

Looking at the Employer's Evaluation Form you could probably complete some of it yourself - # of hours worked per week, describe the type of work, etc. You couldn't complete the evaluation section, but in the remarks box you could explain why you have no "employer" to complete the form for you (and attach more info. if you need more space).

I think DS included his work experience under "other extra curricular activities" in the comments section, as his employer speaks very broken English (I know that's what he did for USNA because they don't have an employees evaluation form). He also made sure to bring it up in his nomination interviews and it became quite a discussion point in one of them.

You could be creative in one of your essays/personal statements and incorporate your work experience and its affect on your life/goals. Your essays are one thing that can help you stand out from all the other applicants - make sure they are dynamic and personal, and not just generic fluff that could be written by almost any candidate.
