Many of you are anxiously awaiting the permit to report packet which will arrive in your mailboxes mid to late May. It contains forms, lots of 'em. And lots of instructions.

Incoming plebe will likely need to obtain more vaccinations. And vaccination records. You will fill out forms naming beneficiaries (which is just about the time it soaks into the parents that their s/d is going not only to college, but to the military). There are forms for who to notify in case of emergency. And who to notify in case first person is not located. And who to notify in case second person is not located. Forms for where to send mids belongings in case the worst happens. And on and on.

Forms listing references. For future security clearances. You are providing contact info only, not asking these folks for letters, etc. There are forms for banking (mids paycheck directly deposited into Navy Federal, I believe.)

When the packet arrives, do not set it aside until late June. You need to sit down with it and a highlighter, hopefully a copy machine nearby, and begin to get through it all.

Some of it is mailed in, some carried in on I-Day. I recommend the parents have a second copy of all of it along on I-Day (or within reach, like back at hotel) and another copy at home in a secure location. Heard of a family whose car was stolen on their way to I-Day. Paperwork gone with the wind.

GO NAVY! :tomcat:

Will the packet tell us how much money plebes will need for plebe summer? Would it be better for spending money to be put in their Navy account or their existing bank account? Thank you.

Make at least one copy of everything to leave at home. The academy may accidently lose a piece of paperwork or it may not get there, etc. so be prepared for that possibility. And have fun with it! The back ground check I know gave some of my classmates the run around :)...

Plebes really do not need money for the summer. Maybe a trip or two to the mid store, which they put on their mid card..........they literally do not need a thing. Bring what it says in the permit to report packet.

Our son uses a debit card from Navy Federal.........that's where all his banking is done.

our son had some cash ($100), his debit card and a Yard Card ... rarely had an opportunity to spend anything over the summer. After PPW, expenses go up. His most consistant expense: Domino's and other food deliveries ...

permit to report

Has anybody received their "permit to report" package yet?

You could functionally show up for I-Day, completely naked, with not a single piece of paper - not even the "Permit to Report" - and you will survive. Believe me, you're name is on a list.

Here is a list of things NOT to bring that you think you probably SHOULD bring.

1. Toiletries. They will provide toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, shaving cream, soap, etc ...

2. Underwear.

3. Socks -or- basically any clothing article is not needed.

4. Pens, pencils, stationary. All is provided.

4. Suitcase. Where do you think you're going? Backpacks are provided. No civilian luggage.

Even if you do not bring your favorite pair of running shoes, they will still provide you with shoes.

A calculator may come in handy for validation exams. Those begin almost immediately.

So, basically, you can show up naked with a calculator in your hand.

You might want to slip a book of stamps in your wallet.

Bring your cellphone and charger. It will be confiscated and returned during designated times when calls are permitted.

I'm sure some others will add to the "What NOT to bring list."

Permit to Report Packet came in the mail today...so much paperwork and you don't find out what company you're in until I day

You will get the specific address on I-Day. If you have a care package made up you can go to the Annapolis Post Office and send it to your MID that day. They will get it in a couple of days. USNA Post Office works kind of slow but as the mill wheels it does eventually work.

Last year we mailed the care package the day before I-Day, which means we found out the company BEFORE I-Day. We cannot collectively remember how we found out what company he was to be in, but we/he did find out in advance. Some list somewhere??? I have sent a text message to plebe son to see if he remembers.

About those packages: we drove up to I-Day, at least part of our family did. Anyway, mailed package number one, in the appropriate rubbermaid tub, the day before I-Day from DTA post office. Then drove to Texas, arriving home Saturday. Next care package in the mail Monday. He received care package number two first! I was concerned about mailing the first one two days ahead so it wouldn't arrive before he did!

Got mine today! :shake:

Does everyone have a different report time? Its on the very first page. I know that they were adamant about telling kids not to show up early, so what are other peoples times? Mine is 9 am! I think it starts at 6?

Ok, 2014, I googled 'USNA Company lists" and up came the thread from last year on the "other" forum, College Confidential. Thread entitled "Class of 2013 company lists out.....somehow" Apparently it was on facebook! If you read the old thread, it only stayed up for a brief time on facebook and was not supposed to be there. So, we must have found out from a more official source than facebook. There is no longer a Clas sof 2013 group on facebook at all.

Basically, if you find out ahead of time: Bonus. If you do not, no sense fretting, because you have absolutely no control over this. Good training for the many things midshipmen and their parents have absolutely no control over. Semper gumby as they say!
