My son did not receive an NROTC scholarship however I have heard that he can reapply this summer before he starts college as a freshmen in the fall. Is that true? He has been accepted to all 5 schools he put on his application and has decided to go to Norwich.

A recruiter told me that his best option is to apply through Norwich for a 3year scholarship. I want to make sure he gets the best possible opportunity to get a scholarship and commissioning.

Anyone have any experience with this?

I posted the following at the end of another link and wanted to post it here as well. Similar question from our end: I am a bit confused after reading posts on different links. My DS was accepted to the top two choices on his scholarship application, but didn't receive a NROTC scholarship. According to the unit coordinator at one of the universities, there is no appeal of the board's decision. He told DS that he could go the route of the college programmer, but if he did so he would lose the opportunity to apply for the NROTC scholarship next year. He advised the other option is to take the Naval Sciences that freshman would take although not in NROTC and reapply next year for scholarship. I've read on a number of posts that others reapply after being college programmers and get scholarships for 3.5, 3 and 2 years. How is this accomplished? Through the NROTC scholarship program or through the university's NROTC unit. The unit coordinator mentioned "leadership scholarships," but said they were getting harder to come by. Please advise. FYI, son just received TWE for Naval Academy and will be reapplying next year.

The Norwich Marine Corps ROTC officer told my daughter that she could come to Norwich, do Marine Corps ROTC, and apply for a sideboard scholarship for the last 3 years. Since she received several academic and leadership scholarships @ Norwich she is considering that. (she didn't get the 4-year either).

When I went to visit Norwich and spoke with the officer in charge for marines he informed me that if you did not recieve the national scholarship, Norwich re-evaluates you in the first semester and you could possibly recieve a scholarship for the second semester of freshman year all the way through until the end. Its based on grades, PT scores, etc. Basically pull a 4.0 and show them you are dedicated is what I was told. If you got this scholarship, you'd only be paying for one semester.

Speaking with some of the students at Norwich, these scholarships have reduced a bit for USMC. A lot of people who were planning on doing the three year scholarship, ended up switching to Army because they had more money and more scholarships available. I remember speaking to three students who were sophomores who went Army 3 year, who were originally planning on Marine 3 year.

Thanks for that info! Very helpful!
