I am waiting on a medical waiver and did not receive a TWE, so I believe that is good news. But, the deadlines to accept admission at the other schools I applied to (Texas A&M and the University of Texas) are fast approaching, May 1st for both I believe. So, what do I do? Do I just pick one and accept even though I may still receive an appointment? The other problem is I haven't heard anything about NROTC, which will help me determine which of those schools I will attend, because my understanding is that they tell you which school to attend. Someone help please

I agree, I think that is a positive sign.

As far as your other options.....son accepted A&M last year, paid housing deposit, signed up for freshman orientation, etc. Even though he was accepted at USNA. Just in case some unforeseen injury or something weird kept him out of USNA. We mailed letters when we returned to Texas from I-Day to let A&M know he would not be showing up. So, I would advise accepting, even though you are still hopeful for USNA. And, being an Aggie, I would advise accepting A&M, not tu!

Have you called Admissions? I have been watching the forum especially for your news.........being as we are almost neighbors out here in west Texas!:thumb:

Ok thanks, I was just trying to avoid spending money where ever I could, but it looks like that is what I'm gonna have to do. Thanks again. I'll try to keep you updated.

Are you checking the NROTC website to see your scholarship status? You must not only receive a NROTC scholarship, but you must be assigned to a specific unit. I suggest that you contact the NROTC officers at Texas A&M and UT to see if they know if you have been assigned to their unit. That way, you can pay the deposit to the "right" school, versus both of them. It is possible to switch a scholarship from one school to another, but only if the unit you want to change into has room.

I have been checking the website and my status still says no decision has been made. But I was thinking maybe, that if I need a medical waiver for the Naval Academy, its possible that I also need one for NROTC which would happen at the same time. Because, I would think they they have one set of doctors that do all of them, correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, you would need a waiver for NROTC. It's been a couple of years now, but I believe that the DoDMERB site should show the status of each waiver decision separately. If you don't see anything in process for NROTC (or approved), I would suggest that you contact Mr Larry Mullin at DoDMERB. You can find his email in the DoDMERB section of this site.

No, the "waiver authority" (the people who make the decisions) for NROTC is NOT the same as for USNA. My Mid received her NROTC medical waiver in February of 2008, so we thought she was good to go medically for USNA. USNA denied her waiver in April 2008, but fortunately allowed it (after an additional medical test) in May 2008.

Ok well my status only shows for USNA, I'll have to ask him about that. Thanks.

Can't speak for ROTC but I'd call your RD re USNA. They should have told you your status pending waiver. Your BGO may be able to help -- if he/she has no more info, he/she can also call on your behalf..

My initial inclination is that it's good news but things do fall through the cracks, both ways so don't get your hopes up yet.

Remember, that NROTC won't request a DoDMERB until you've been awarded a scholarship. Contact Larry Mullen, and ask if there is anything else they need for their files. He will respond to you directly.
