Hey guys,

Just wondering what happens after sending in the, "I accept my appointment" paper and $3000? Son sent his in paperwork and fundage last Tuesday, the 13th and was told by admissions on that same day that they get them out within 24 hours of receiving the signed paper. I'm hoping it didn't get lost in the mail.

If we don't see something by tomorrow, I'll have son call...I NEED MY KEYCHAIN! (I mean son needs his keychain) :shake: -officer

There are keychains now?

Yes! Keychains, banner, etc.

Officer, It took a couple of weeks after we sent in the remainder of the deposit and acceptance form to get the "welcome" packet. We recieved the appointment packet last Thursday with the remainder of the forms, etc. Get started on the passport paperwork now. Also, you can go ahead and get your panoramic and bitewings dental xrays. My son was due for his checkup, so we got ours then. He is scheduled to lose some of his "wisdom" next week.

As soon as we read the paperwork on the immunizations, we scheduled an appointment with his doctor. Even though he was up to date per state/school requirements, he had to have several boosters. Two down, a few to go. The yellow fever, they can't give and they are having to specially order the Hep A which takes a little while. The paperwork says all immunizations by June 1 with no live virus one month before, so he will have to finish out the Hep A series at the Academy. As far as the rest of the paperwork, it was just routine type forms.

My son also received his paperwork package the other day. It seems very overwhelming, but we have decided to tackle it one thing at a time. So the dental xray got scheduled for next week, and today I made a call to the doctor and faxed over the immunization requirements. Passport was ordered a few weeks ago and arrived just the other day (check that one off the list). We are planning on sitting down sometime this weekend to begin the paperwork (be prepared...there are lots of forms to fill out). Running shoes have been bought and are getting worn in. Hotel reservations have also been made! All in all...I feel as though I have some control over things. I just hope throughout all this, I don't forget to buy him his body wash, shampoo, and deodorant!!!

Oh yeah...the banner went to the girlfriend and he kept the keychain - darn!

Good info guys, thank you.

I read about the immunizations, dentist stuff, and passport (he already has his passport) in the parent/cadet handbook, but they only touch on what he'll need. So I guess I'll go ahead and start making the dental and doctor appointments so at least he'll get in. We're going backpacking in the Sierra's soon, so I have to really MOVE on this.

After sending in Acceptance Letter

Yes, we remember all those errands (dentist, shots, passport) after our daughter sent in her acceptance letter last April. We scheduled the appointment to have her wisdom teeth out the first week of June (right after high school graduation, but enough time to recover before R-Day). While she was laid up and recovering at home she insisted on renting and watching The Guardian! (Several months later at the Academy, the cadets watched the Guardian in Leamy Hall....they had a great time...and caught the movie mistakes. Our daughter saw the movie from a completely different perspective then!)

I don't forget to buy him his body wash, shampoo, and deodorant!!!

No no, these 3 things come in one package!

Body wash = shampoo (they won't have much hair anyway) = deodorant.

And don't forget a trip to the tailor for the uniform measurements.

It never smells like swabs use deoderant....that's a constant in Chase Hall...the scent of Swab Summer....it is TERRIBLE.

ROFL LITS,

That is so funny, because son and I talk about his AIM oderific experience that he so vividly remembers. Nothing like the smell a napalm in the morning.

So anyway, I don't think we are gong to have son's wisdom teeth pulled. They haven't started to surface yet, so we're thinking to just let CGA handle it when they think it should get done. Is this a bad move? Opinions please.

That is so true about the smell! Even though you shower 4-5 times a day, you never truly feel clean. Honestly the only day I ever felt clean was on Sundays. Thanks for the trip down memory lane! haha

As for your son's teeth...I really recommend that he gets them out before he goes to the academy. It is much better to recover at home with your parents then it is in the ward at the medical clinic. Mine were impacted and I was in pain afterwards but I know it was easier recuperating at home then it would have been at the Academy.

Consult a qualified dental professional before making any decisions.

If the wisdom teeth are erupting normally, there is usually no need for their removal at this time. However, if they are going to come in sideways (impacted) it is better to remove them now, even if they have not caused any problems yet.

I had mine removed while I was a cadet (all 4 at once). I enjoyed my time in the ward, with other classmates who needed those large nasty teeth removed before they could get their commissions.

Free is free.

And don't forget the magic body wash-shampoo combo. Terrible on the hair, but you are right, for boys there is precious little to worry about. My son DID used deoderant though....at least I am pretty sure he did.

So, Chase Hall, during Swab Summer, smells like our utility room does during football season, which was followered quickly by basketball season, which is right on the heels of track/soccer season. A never-ending bouquet of funky feet, with a hint of grundgy armpit and a finishing note of nappy shorts. Like all fine wines, best only when taken in small amounts.

Son said during AIM, you could tell the when the Swabs were either coming by or had just been by, it tended to linger. OH BOY, I know the new swabs can't wait! And current swabs are going to be happy too. You're still a swab until you see a swab.

Haha...my cadre called the lingering odor "crop dusting." And the Aimsters don't smell too good either the week they're there :yllol::thumb:

And I used 3-in-1 shampoo as well, it was some kind of Suave kids shampoo but it worked and it was a lot faster then using three separate bottles. And I remember hearing stories from swabs in other companies about swabs not showering just to save time...DON'T DO THAT! It's bad health wise and pretty soon everyone knows who it was and the cadre aren't afraid to embarrass you.

yah, you'll get some that just get their hair wet so it looks like they showered. You shower so often during the summer that you really don't need deodorant. Old Spice will keep your pits nice for a few hours after a shower which is usually how long it will be until you take the next shower.

As cadre we had to talk to a few of our stinky swabs....and then 4/c, about personal hygene.

Please do not pour on the Axe deoderant...

Got the key chain, pen, pennant, and best of all, hand-written note today. The note mentioned that she (AO) wished mom could have been a little bit excited for him . She totally heard me screaming and crying in the background.

P.S. Deodorant is always a good thing for stinky kids, even if they are showering constantly. :barf: ewwww, smelly!

Our 4/c had them removed before R-day so she could recover at home. Unless money is a concern (it's expensive even with dental insurance) you may wish to consider having them out prior to the pressures of the academy.
