This past year in my AFJROTC unit we've had some issues with theft apparently. Sometime in the year, someone stole flight simulator software. About 3 weeks ago, someone stole our SASI's key to our water/gatorade cash box. Lock wasn't changed and this past Saturday at our Squadron Competition, over $100 was stolen from the box.

Our SASI and ASI basically decided this was the last straw. So they cancelled all our events for the rest of the year. We are losing our Pass-in-Review and Awards Ceremony, our farewell picnic to the seniors, and our week long leadership camp at a military base during the summer. We also can't hang out in the office when the SASI and ASI step out, the officers can't hang out in our "lounge" area, we can't go into the SASI or ASI's office just to talk, and no body, including the finance officer, is allowed to handle money.

So there are two lessons to take from this. One, if you are a person of integrity, know that in the military, if one person screws up, your entire unit goes down. Two, if you aren't someone of integrity, try to refrain doing something that will destroy every one else's fun.

that is very unfortunate. It's too bad those that do this can't be sorted out earlier. Don't they have any conscience when they lay in their bunk at night?

I'm just sorry to hear this (again).

TOne, if you are a person of integrity, know that in the military, if one person screws up, your entire unit goes down.

"Private Pyle has dishonored himself and dishonored the platoon.
I have tried to help him. But I have failed.
I have failed because YOU have not helped me.
YOU people, have not given Private Pyle the proper motivation!
So, from now on, whenever Private Pyle ***** up, I will not punish him!
I will punish all of YOU!
And the way I see it ladies, you owe me for ONE JELLY DOUGHNUT!
NOW, GET DOWN ON YOUR FACES!"

Is it certain that someone in the unit is behind it, or is it possible someone outside the unit is responsible?

It almost had to be a cadet. And an older one too. They had to know enough about the unit to know which key and how to get the money.

I know what you mean. A guy (my own trainee) got arrested from my Explorer post for stealing credit card numbers and what not.

Took our post a good while before we could regain trust around the Deputies. Yeah, he was the only one involved, but it reflected negatively on our whole post.

similar thing happened in my unit last year, someone stole $30 from a box that held money we made from selling snacks.

Time to scrap the new "Honor Concept" and bring back the "Honor Code" :thumb:

That really sucks, but its a great example of the difference between civilian and military punishment/accountability. If in school, for example, someone steals a hundred bucks from the lunch cash box...that sole individual would be punished, not the enitre school.
