I'm trying to avoid going to Fort Benning (for a multitude of reasons) and am trying to avoid using AAFES. I have a pair of black leather Oxfords from JROTC (12D) but they are shiny.

I've searched high and low for NON-SHINY low quarters but can't seem to find them. Thanks to a very generous soul, I'm able to purchase them, so if anyone could help by providing store names, links, etc. , it would be much appreciated.

bakermiddle,

A trip to Fort Benning probably wouldn't do you any good anyway. When we were looking last year, non-shiny low quarters were not to be found anywhere on post (or off).

Someone suggested trying an Air Force base and, sure enough, Maxwell AFB clothing sales had exactly what we needed. Call ahead to check availability. If you don't have military ID, call ahead to make arrangements to get on base.

HTH.

We were able to get a pair from AAFES.COM If you have access, you can get a pair. My son's size was true to his normal shoe size. Anyway, they have them, if you can get access or if you know someone who can get them for you. Good Luck

Our D purchased her low quarters and boots at Maxwell AFB also. The store personnel were very helpful. When you call ahead, make sure you are talking with someone at the main clothing store. There were two numbers on the list given.

Many National Guard bases also carry them instock. They should give you a list of the Px's that carry them and their phone numbers so you can call first.

bakermiddle - not sure of your aversion to AAFES - this is where to find the official shoe. If you can't get the shoe then buy some kind of alternate that fits you well so you can break in your feet. Please don't show up in Corfam's. If you don't have the proper shoe then wear sneakers. You won't be alone.

They had them at the JRB in Fort Worth. No real problem getting them, either.

Be careful if you are going to purchase your low quarters at the PX at USMA. I went there with my boot letter and they sold me shiny low quarters, assuring me that it was the correct model. Of course, it was my fault for not bothering to read the "Non-shiny" part, but just as a heads up for anyone else who goes there: you must specify "non-shiny" or you will waste $50 like I did

Well, definitely hold on to them. If things haven't changed (and I'm sure AF can help us here), at some point you will be able to wear them - at least to class and things like that. So it won't be a total waste of money!

For class of 2011...the shiny low quarters could be worn after plebe year.

Boot/shoe letter

Can someone post a link or more that guides us to the type of non-shiny black shoes that are approved or the specific Bates shoe?
There is reference to a shoe / boot letter on the portal, but my son can not find it on the portal?

Perhaps post the actual letter?

Thanks

The Boot Letter is found within the Second Admissible Mailings. Tell your son to click on the link that says "Go to your Admissible Mailings page". He needs the letter to buy the boots and shoes. He also needs to read the things within the Admissible Mailings.
