New Balance Shoe for Plebe Summer

Since kids can use their own sneakers (mostly white), why worry about this? I would bet that the plebes wouldn't want to own more than one pair of the issued NB sneaks!!

These NB shoes aren't half bad. I bought 2 pr. for myself at the midstore. I'm on my feet ALL DAY at work. (IV team at the VA Hospital) These plebes are young, resilient future officers. We're the ones with fragile feet.

The big "N" on the side of the New Balance shoes stands for Navy! That's what I tell the National Guard (Army) officer at work. I told him that the Navy allows New Balance to advertise on the Navy shoes...Navy is just nice that way. ::shake::yllol:

I'm sure the shoes aren't "half-bad". But, I have been to the Yard with DD for all of 5 her visits and have NOTICED that not one of the many Mids I have seen running around the yard, playing tennis, going to Halsey Field House for weight training, were wearing the "Big N" sneakers. We made note of it because we wanted to make sure that the Mids are indeed allowed to wear the shoes of their choice before going out and buying another pair of mostly white sneakers.

This appears to me to be the only personal choice allowed, especially for Plebes, except possibly for underwear, so why bother when you don't have to?

DD made note of as much as she could about what she could/should bring with her. The things the Mids she stayed with told her was to wear her "broken in" (personal choice) running shoes in to I-Day, have me mail blankets to her so she could sleep on top of the "made" bed, and was told not to bother buying socks, underwear, etc., that she would be given as many as needed of all.

Given, no, ACE loan, yes.

Last year's advice to incoming plebe women was to bring your own sports bras ... you know what fits better ...

What about men's underwear? Can they wear those boxer-briefs or just the "tighty-whities"?

Last year we bought long, knit boxers for plebe son ... not quite compression shorts, certainly not tighty whities ... and they worked well. we sent him with a bunch, then mailed him more because the laundry return is slow ... and they sweat, sweat, sweat all summer ... from both the intensity of training and the humidity ... changing often helps prevent chaffing, fungus and lots of nasty stuff ...

I don't know...I've seen NUMEROUS mids running, and traveling with their New Balance shoes. I've been on the Yard many times throughout the year, and met the D&B for a couple of games off the Yard. Groups of mids often dress in their warm-up suits when traveling, and wear NB shoes as well. Can they buy their own? Certainly. It is a good idea to bring a pair of white ones that are broken in.

My son brings his NB shoes home on leave, and has never had a single complaint. Perhaps he's just very low maintenance, and doesn't fuss over much. He likes the shoes.

I just checked the photos of the USNA intramural bb championship on the USNA Facebook site and I don't think anyone was wearing New Balance shoes.

During CWV the plebe I was shadowing with said the issued white NB shoes were horrible and caused blisters but that you had to wear them during plebe summer. She also said that you get issued gray NB shoes but I don't know whether you get those during plebe summer or academic year, but she recommended definitely bringing a pair your most comfortable pair to because it saved a lot of pain.

I also asked whether I should buy a pair of those white NB and she said definitely not b/c by the end of plebe summer almost nobody wears them.

The gray and white NB shoes were issued during plebe summer. They were more for the people that didn't bring comfortable running shoes for PT. Yeah, nobody wears them after plebe summer, haha. Definitely recommend your own shoes!

My son brought broken in shoes on I Day and had them taken and stored for the summer. They also took his glasses even though they did not have BCG's for him. He went half of the summer without glasses. He was happy not to wear BCG's until it was discovered at eye exam that he needed glasses.

I really hope no one takes my glasses!! I'm pretty much blind without glasses. And if they do, I hope they have BCGs for me (there's something I never thought I'd say).
