What Branch are you joining and why?

While waiting for scholarship results to come in I thought I'd ask everybody what branch they're joining and why.

I'm joining the Army because I want to be leading troops on the ground, my grandparents both served in the Army in WW2 and my school's AROTC program is very good.

ON a side note: For all you AROTC folk, any of you considering joining the Ranger Challenge team? I definitely am!

Not for any particularly good reason. My uncle and grandfather were in the Air Force, so i began by considering that, but I'm just past the height requirements for a pilot/nav (all my family members in the air force were navs) and when it came time to apply for a scholarship, the Army stood out to me the most.
Now that i have the scholarship, i couldn't imagine joining any other branch. :thumb:
I'd love to do ranger challenge but it'll come down to what academic classes I'm taking and how much time i need to spend on those. My gpa comes before ranger challenge on my list of priorities, so I may wait to join or not join.
 
I'm also doing Army.


1)My dad was Army(for a few years)
2) I don't like boats. Haha
3) I wanted to prove to myself that I could do Army.

My main reason for going Army was the amount of range you have in terms of picking what you want to study. AF and Navy prefer you to have science/engineering type majors, and you have a better shot at a scholarship if you pick one of those. However, I'm interested in being a veterinarian and therefore am an animal science major, so I don't think I would have stood a chance with another branch. But, like rotcdonde said, now that I'm in I can't imangine being anywhere else :)
I would also love to do Ranger Challenge, but I don't know if they would rather have a guy fill my spot (I'm a girl). Plus, my school has an ROTC Triathlon team, and that appeals to me more, so I'm going to do that for sure!

Same here. another reason i'm still not sure if i will. I heard that it's now mandatory to have at least one female on the team. does anyone know if that's true? (sorry, this post is a little off topic)
 
Reason for not choosing Navy... I might be sleeping between a airstrip and a nuclear reactor (Aircraft Carrier) or yards away from a nuclear reactor surrounded by enough pressure to crush my body into a ball (nuclear submarine). I like to keep my sperm count high, and that isn't going to happen if I'm that close to a nuclear reactor.

Reason for not choosing Air Force... I might be a kiwi (nonflying member of the AF), due to my vision despite the allowance of lasik.

REASON FOR CHOOSING ARMY... I'm a land lover, I would kiss the ground if our mouths had less bacteria than the ground. Interested in being apart of 10th PSYOPS or infantry.

No disrespect to those participating other branches but that is how I feel.

Went the USMC route to lead Marines. Not to mention the Props of when you become a Marine let alone a Marine Officer.

Son chose Marines. I won't speak for him to tell you why but he and Steven sound related. Love the quotes!
 
I chose Marine Corps ROTC. Don't get me wrong, any branch of the military is great and it would be an honor to serve, period.

What stood out to me about the Marine Corps, as a high school senior, is the common bond that all Marines have. It seemed to me that the Marines were the best of the best, in terms of leadership and purely just getting the job done. The Marines have the lowest pay salary per person out of all of the branches, and despite this, they have the highest rate of success. There was something about the phrase, "first in, last out," that attracted me more to the Marine Corps. And most of all, "semper fidelis" - "always faithful."

I feel that Marines have the most in common out of all of the branches and have the strongest bond/brotherhood out of all of the branches as well. Though I am not yet a Marine, these things all stood out to me as something more than the other branches.

I enlisted in the Marines then got an NROTC MO scholarship so my entire goal was to be a Marine but being a Marine Officer is very elite, in my mind. But I do not disrespect any branch it's just my preference happens to be USMC. And like previously stated quotes like "Semper Fidelis" just meant something in my mind.

In survey's, the whole army voted for a return to "pinks &greens" so naturally the CSA and CSMA picked this monstrosity.

There's been something I've always wanted to ask a Marine, but kept forgetting until now.

When you say "Semper Fidelis," do you say it like Semper Fi with the "delis" attached, or like the USFidelis commercial - pronounced "Fe-delis."

Bit of a random question, but I'm curious. Personally I say it like Semper Fi.

When you are saying "Semper Fidelis" it is pronounced "Fe-delis." At least that is how my grandpa (20 year Marine, retired as a Captain) pronounces it.
 
My son chose Army. He's a high-verbal kid and wasn't interested all the math/science/engineering requirements of Navy or Air Force. You can be any major in Army ROTC. If he can handle the workload, he'll be a Psych major with French and/or Music minors (on top of military science). :eek: We'll see how that works out. :wink:
 
I'm choosing Navy. I went from wanting to be an AF pilot, which changed after I soloed and started to get my PPL. Flying wasn't for me. I started training with my local USMC recruiting depot and was looking at enlisting but after I placed 3rd out of around 275 at the CO USMC recruiting depot competition last year I decided to become an officer. I started looking at USN SEALs, USMC Force Recon and Infantry.

I chose the one that has the best/toughest training so that when the time comes, I can lead the best. I also looked at which allows an officer to do the most fighting because I believe in leading from the front. That criteria led me to the teams and hopefully after graduating from USMMA I will be headed off to BUD/S.

Note: Recon and Infantry officers mainly lead from the command post or from a position in the rear to coordinate between the enitre platoon or larger unit from my understanding. The actual leading in the battle is done by squad/platoon through the non-comm's.
