Texas A&M "Full on the Navy side"

I am so discouraged. The Navy contact at A&M mentioned that he believes A&M is "full on the Navy side" meaning the limited number of allotted ROTC scholarship billets have been filled. We were SO hoping for our son to attend A&M if he gets a Navy scholarship, but it's not looking good now. Go AFROTC, I guess, maybe they're not full.

Anyone have any experience with transfers?

Has your son been accepted to A&M yet? Even if he doesn't get the NROTC scholarship, if he goes to A&M and joins the Corps of Cadets, he will almost assuredly get a Corps scholarship of at least $1000 per year. I know that alone is not much, but it would qualify him for in state tuition which is a great savings if you are from outside Texas. You can also get on their wait list and hope a few of those spots open up with people that end up going to the Academies or declining their spot for other reasons.

If he really wants to go to A&M, where there is a will, there is a way.

I've got a NROTC scholarship, and have been accepted to A&M. Hopefully I can hear something sometime soon from the academies about an appointment, so I can decline my scholarship and free up a slot for your son. So don't give up hope, because I can vouch for the possibilty of one slot opening. I wish him best of luck in getting a ROTC scholarship, and congratulations on wanting to go to A&M. Other than the academies, its the best school in the nation IMO. (my dad and older brother went there :thumb:).

Thank y'all. He's been accepted to A&M's college of engineering for Aerospace Engineering (we are instate) and will go there one way or another - but I'm sure hoping it's Full Ride - if not.. CadetMom, you nailed it, where there's a will there's a way. And hey, maybe next year, if not this year.

Gig 'em! Good luck to you too - all of this waiting is just a killer.

I recently opened up a spot for NROTC at A&M. Had a full ride scholarship but no admission. Oh well, at least I'm in at the Naval Academy!

Wait so A & M didn't take you but Navy did??? Thats crazy. Same thing happened to a brother of my friend's. He didn't get into James Madison University (3.9 average, 1180 sat average), but got into West Point. Which is pretty nice I think

LOL that is a very funny situation to be in........ As a matter of fact I was in the same one. Got an AFROTC type 2 scholarship, NROTC Scholarship, and an appointment to the AFA but for some reason I couldn't get into A&M....... Lol

I think it probably comes down to the top 10% rule. If you're in the top 10% of your class in Texas, you're an automatic admit, but if not it gets pretty dicey. It does seem crazy, though, doesn't it?

And if you're not from Texas it doesn't matter if you're in the Top 10 percent. You have to make a 30 on the ACT... I got a 29.

Yes it does. Additionally, both my primary and secondary choice majors were in the College of Engineering and a prof friend said Engineering slammed the door based on date not so much quals....oh well.
