Got a text message that son was moving to Sq 20 for the next 3 years. Said he heard from sophomores that it is a good squadron but in a "crappy" location - 6th floor of Vandy, way on the end by Arnold Hall - the furthest you can be from anything.

With 50% of a squadron changing every year, how can anyone say a squadron is good or bad?

DS got CS 36. How do they decide who goes where?

C4C 2013:confused:

What do you mean by 50% of the squadron changing every year? Usually, except if you have issues, once you change after your C4C year, you'll stay with the squadron you're in until you graduate. Mike....

new incoming c4c's are approx 25%; the rising c3c's (the ones who just got their assignments) are another 25%, so each year you get new 50%

OK; but I took stats in college too. 75% of the student body will stay in the same squadron for 3 years. (Don't you just love statistics). That's how people can say if a squadron is good or not. Then again, there will be those that love their squadron, and those that hate the same squadron.

20 is a good location.... and its not the farthest u can get from anything (sijan tower much)

Official word is that it is random (but deliberately split from current squadron freshman) except for those with legacy. Not sure if that is how it is done in actuality. Son says they gave them a list of who would be in their new squadrons and he only knows one of them. Through playing pickup basketball, workout group, skiing, BCT, etc. I thought he would know more but alot that he skis with are sophomores. I'm not worried though - he has always been social. I just hope they can match up with some similiar interests - he is a big sports fan and roomed with two IC athletes this year.

You meet alot more people in the summer as a rising 3 degree.

Do the raising C3C also get summer squadrons?

I believe the 4 dig shuffle is not entirely random - they look at GPAs, IC etcs. and try to balance.

No "summer" squadrons like the academic year. Cadets are coming and going each go plus everyone moves out of Vandy to accommodate sports camps, summer seminar, and BCT.

I have no idea how this works with squadrons....but 50% stay every year if I'm not mistaken. 25% graduate since they are C1Cs. Another 25% leave, because they were C4Cs and will now be switching squadrons. Right?

ummmmm, yea. You could see it that way. 25% of the wing graduates; and 25% of the wing is brand new. And 25% of the wing goes from C4C to C3C and changes squadrons. So does that mean 75% of the wing is changed out in some form or another????

Hee Hee. Sorry; while I found stats interesting, I hated it. Because you can make any number say anything you want it to.

Actual stats. (DON'T COMBINE THEM, YOU'LL GET A HEADACHE)
75% of the CADET WING Remain each year. (Those BECOMING C3C, C2C, and C1C)
25% of the CADET WING will go into their first squadron. (C4)
25% of the CADET WING will move on to a NEW squadron (C4C becoming C3C)
50% of the CADET WING will remain in the same squadron they had the previous year. (Those becoming C2C and C1C)
75% of the CADET WING Stays in the SAME Squadron for 3 of their 4 years. (Those who are C3C, C2C, and C1C)

This is fun. We can keep playing. Of course, none of this includes those who quit or get kicked out. Bottom line..... Get rid of the percentages...... As a C4C you are in a squadron. Doesn't matter which one. After your 1st year there, all of the C4C that are going to become C3C are going to go to a NEW SQUADRON. (With a few exceptions like legacy). Once in your new squadron, you will stay there for 3 full years. (With a few rare exceptions).

So, that's how it is. Don't do the numbers game. It's stats. And stats only mean something if everyone is playing the same game with everyone using apples and no one is mixing in oranges. mike....

Your fourth line above is the 50% that posters are referencing, i.e. when my son gets to his new squadron this fall, only 50% were in that squad the previous year.

yeeeeeeah!

while they say the shuffle is random, it's not. like someone before mentioned, they look at GPAs, how many ICs, how many preppies, gender, and ethnicity... so i guess it's "random," but they still have certain quotas/standards for each squadron

when do the squadron moves take affect? DS didn't have much time so all I got was quick text with the update he was moving to 11.

Rising 3 degree Sqd selections

Yes, they try to even out each squadron academically, physically, diversity....

Yes to the above when I said random. Guess I should have clarified that. I just meant after considering balancing the squadrons by the above factors, it appears random as to which of the 40 squadrons you go to (not counting legacy).

Im going from Eagle Eight to Dirty Dozen with 2 other of my freshmen squad members. The chances are very rare that that would happen....but it did. I'm going from brand new renovated dorms to the oldest part of Vandy =/
