Attached Firstie

In what context did you hear this term from? Ie can you use it in a sentence?
 
my S said that he didn't get the wing position he was hoping for. When i asked if he was going to try and get another job. he said he was probably just going to be an "attached firstie" with no job because his courseload was so heavy next year.

Since he has to take 13 classes plus powered flight, I sure understand. I just didn't know what "attached firstie" meant. attached to what?
 
most likely a firstie with no real job in the squadron... never really heard that term before..
 
really? our firsties and now 2digs bring it up a decent amount. lol
 
yup; an "attached firstie" is a firstie (senior) that's assigned to an element in the squadron with no explicit squadron job

Guess he will just get to enjoy his 22 credits then. Should be a piece of cake with no "official" job.
 
At Navy we called the MiR (Midshipman-in-Ranks). Don't know if they still do.:rolleyes:

At USAFA "back in Brown Shoe Days" we called them C/2LT, aka UNRANKED firsties...'cause the lowest job in the SQ for a firstie was element leader, C/1Lt.

now all element leaders are juniors. and C/2LT, or an "unranked firstie" is reserved for those firsties who are on honor, aptitude, and/or conduct probation.

also, "attached firstie" doesn't mean no job. almost every senior has some job, but some only require as much work as the officer is willing to put forth. for example, the PA, Safety, and Security officers really don't have much to do for most of the year. occasionally they'll be tasked to do something random, but it's not nearly as involved or time-consuming as training officer, flight commander, Director of Operations, or Squad Comm
 
I've always heard "attached firstie" as a firstie with NO squadron job. PA, Security, etc, would all have an actual title, rather than "attached." ...not saying those with jobs actually do more than an attached firstie, but they have a job description.

Usually, an attached firstie will either do the squadron odd-jobs, or nothing (those with nothing is often because they are a stealth cadet or no one trusts them with responsibility).
 
i had seen it that way before. but more recently with the MPA system and all that, evetyone has to have some job entered into the system
 
usually assistant flight comm or inspection team. that's what ive seen from C/1LT at least
 
asst flight comm is part of the inspection team. inspections team should be Dir or Stan/Eval, Asst Dir of Stan/Eval, Stan/Eval NCO, and A, B, and C Asst Flt/CCs
