Hopefully, someone can shed some light on this question for me please.

If you are NOT doing an IC sport but your sport that you want to do is a CLUB sport...must you also take an Intramural sport too.

Thanks.

depends on the club. if you join/make the club team, then you have what's called "LOS" status (limited on-season). during your season time when you have LOS you do not have to do intramurals. not sure which club teams have LOS and which ones don't though

thanks eagle36

It would be for Taekwondo which is the Club and should hopefully make the Team.
How would i find out if its LOS?
So if it has LOS then it would only be Taekwondo - but if its not..then an Intramural must be done also??....am I reading that right??

Is there any need for son to bring a lacrosse stick to BCT if he's thinking of trying to try out for the team? When does the team start conditioning or practicing?

PJ

Lax stick

I would wait until the end of BCT and ship it to him. I'll take my son's lax stick to him after Acceptance. They'll have no time during BCT and cannot have it.

That's what I figured! Might bring it and leave it at his sponsor's since we already know who it will be. Thanks!

LAX stick

Good call.... that way he can get it right after BCT!

Still trying to figure it out.
If you do a Club sport....do you do an Intamural too or just the Club??

Lacrosse?

Anyone know when the Lacrosse team starts tryouts/conditioning/practice?

PJ, you should contact the LAX coach for the open try out times. I suspect it is going to be during the summer BCT period. (Eric Seremet Head Coach 719-333-9298)

For clubs, you can contact the Clubs office to see if your sport has LOS. If you have LOS you go to your club practice instead of intermurals. However, if your club does not have LOS, you go to intermurals and your club on non-intermural days.

I was the USAFA Karate Team Captain from 96-98. At the time, that team had LOS and we trained 5 days a week for three hours. Way more than your intermural commitment. TKD folks were lumped into the club. There are multiple martial arts clubs at the Academy. When I was there, we had Ninjitsu, Judo, Traditional Karate, Competitive Karate, and Aikido. TKD was formed within the past 10 or so years.

LOS is quite coveted by clubs and not all are granted the status, so call to see if your club does have it.

You can find contact numbers for your club here:
http://www.usafa.edu/cadetFocus/cadetClubs/
Tae Kwon Do Point of Contact 719-333-8487

I believe TKD and Karate are both NCAA sports (certainly both Olympic) that USAFA does not participate in. This is a resources issue with how many mens teams vs. womens teams you have in your program, coaching staff, etc.

Best of luck!

P.S. We have a great history of TKD Competition at USAFA. Alex White was a team mate of mine and was a member of '01 (I think). He did quite well and finished 2nd at the Collegiate TKD Nationals in 2001. http://www.ncta-usa.com/results/2001_NCTA_results.pdf I also think we was an alternate to the US National team that represented the US in the 2000 summer olympics in Sydney.

Thanks SHINER
That has helped put things into prospective a little more.
Thanks again also for the club info and contact #.

If I'm a recruited IC athlete, can I still compete for my squadron in intramurals? Perhaps during the off-season?

Probably depends on your sport. The 4* football players in DS squad played softball this spring. Swimmers/Gymnasts/Basketball (and probably some other sports) train/compete both fall & spring, so no intramurals for them.

I would suggest you speak with your coach about a desire to play intermurals with your squadron. The big risk here is injury. As mentioned above, some IC athletes do play on occation with their squadron, but it really isnt the norm. Even in the off season, there is a training program for your sport and your coach may not want you doing anything outside of their training program. On the other hand, some may encourage it to get you more involved with your squadron and classmates.
