AIM letter arrived

My son got his letter too. He didn't make it either. Good Luck to everyone else.

My son did not win the Aim Lottery either. Does anyone know if they open it up to other applicants if some decline the invitation?

Missed the Lottery but still won the prize

If it makes any of you feel any better... My son was not selected in last year's lottery, but still received an appointment for the Class of 2014! Hold you head up!

My son also received his rejection letter but one thing that made him feel a little better was the fact that they said he could go for " cadet for a day " in the fall.

Cadet for a Day

Well worth it. We took him up last October and he knew it was what he wanted and it gave them a first look. You can get his interview(s) done while he is up there, and again, was well worth the trip.

Time for Objee to (once again) dispel the notion that AIM selection is purely by lottery.

It is not.

From a previous post:

Objee said:
In the past, AIM applications were reviewed by two Admissions staff members and scored: 1) Accept; 2) Hold; or 3) Do Not Accept.

All applicants placed on "Hold" were considered qualified for the program and had their names placed in a lottery (random selection) pool to fill available spots.

Since all notification letters were mailed at the same time, applicants were not informed how they were scored, but just that they'd been selected to attend AIM.

Any remaining "Hold" applicants (not chosen in the lottery) were invited to participate in the Cadet for a Day overnight visitation program.

Not sure if USCGA plans to use the same selection process this year.

AIM Acceptance

Received letter today in southcentral PA, and son was accepted to second week of AIM. I don't know what got him in, but I assume his qualifications are similar to others (top 10% of class, AP courses, engineering interest, multiple sports, Boy Scout Eagle, musician, good PSATs, etc). Web info suggests this was a challenging year. Best of luck to all in the Fall with the big application.

My son received his AIM acceptance letter today

My son, Eric, was thrilled because he learned he was accepted to the first session of AIM, July 4-10. He was hoping this would work out because we're going to be at the CGA on June 28 when his brother, Joshua, "reports in" for the class of 2014 and now we'll stay in the area and drop Eric off a few days later for AIM. They actually might get to see each other since Josh will be there for SWAB summer and Eric for AIM at the same time. Now that we know Eric's status we can make our flight arrangements to Connecticut.

Good luck to everyone else!

Luigi,

Turtle1 stated in her son's letter- he was invited to take part the cadet for the day program. And you said those who didn't get picked from the lottery who receive a hold statis could take part of the cadet for the day program. My son's letter doesn't state that. In his it had the words of encourgements and to contact his AO and visit campus soon and apply in the summer to the Class of 2015. Does this mean he got a lower score?

My son's letter also encouraged him to go to "Cadet for A Day" next fall. He was hoping to see what it was like first hand. His brother is currently on the Eagle and a 2013 Cadet. He did not go to AIM - he only learned about it when it was too late to apply. Our younger son, although disappointed, does get a lot of information from his brother and he was able to tour the campus with his brother did. Good luck to all the applicants that made it in.

The "Cadet For A Day" (formerly Beansprout) is by invitation only. I am not aware of the criteria used to select the invitations, perhaps Objee can weight in with more info when his schedule cools down a little.

DS got accepted!

We just opened the mail and my son got the acceptance letter! He will attend session 3 (18-24 July). He is very excited. His buddy is going to NASS (DS only applied for AIM) so they can both be proud of their accomplishment!!

aim letter received

Our son received his letter yesterday for the last session; we are located in So Cal. Good luck to everyone.

As you may or may not know, your younger son may "see" his brother on the grounds but they won't have any interaction. Swabs and AIMsters are kept apart intentionally. My son is 2/c cadre at the waterfront and I'll be working with 1st session AIM.

Actually, if both your sons go to Vespers on Wednesday night, they might see each other. I remember last year, one of the swabs and his brother who was an Aimster spent the entire duration of Vespers together.

It's funny how so many cadets find religion...haha:biggrin:

Yes T&F is right; our son (the AIMster) did get to see his sister (the Swab) at Vespers on Wed. night. A pretty cool, brother/sister moment (for both) as we found out later. :thumb:
Congrat's to the Swab and her classmates. DD is now a 3rd Class cadet and is either standing watch or on liberty in Colombia as I write!

My daughter got third week too, after CGA accomodated a change from the first week for a conflict which arose after applying to AIM.

What did he do in sop/jr. year?
