Is 52 days away:eek: Time to start getting really excited

Time to get really excited ...... about RUNNING! Try to run 2 or 3 miles a day. And don't forget the flutter kicks!!

Seriously, besides running, the most important thing to bring is your sense of humor. Don't take anything said to you personally. Remember, they are just telling you what was said to them only 1 year ago. Let it all roll off your back. The DI's are just yelling at a name tag. Do your best and try to stay under the radar. But don't get mad or take anything personally. The DI's have a job to do. Come with a thick skin, do your best, keep your head down and help your fellow plebe candidate when possible. Good luck!:thumb:

Yes I have been doing the running and pushups and situps and such. Any advice on the pace we should be running the miles in?

Today I ran 5 miles in addition to a work out with push ups squats dips pull ups calf raises and more push ups! My running shoes suck so I have big 2in by .5in blisters on the insides of both of my feet. O well, it should be good for Wednesday and Thursday. I've gotta seriously work on flexibility though.

Probably a 7-8 minute mile split is pretty good. Just try to gradually run it fast each time. How do you eat a huge elephant?

You will always be tested on a mile and a half that needs to be under 11 minutes if you can do that you will be fine.

Just show up in shape and try and stay "under the radar" - that's generally NOT something that folks entering any of the Academies are all that experienced in (Flying Under the Radar). A sense of humor is indeed essential as well. Mid-July can be humid and hot on the Long Island Sound ... so

as toddman says the 11 minute 1.5 mile run - "en masse" can be painful/tough for some but it's usually fun in a strange way - if it's any consolation "back in the day" - 30 years ago it was a 3 mile run in 27 minutes or less for males and that could be a lot more painful....

It looks like before graduation Barney Square will be finished and the world's tallest unguyed flagpole will be back in place so those aspects of the KP traditional indoctrination/experience will once again be in place.

It does indeed help to be excited, enjoy the last weeks of your year as seniors in high school (the "kings and queens of your respective campuses) as come the start of indoctrination at USMMA you will indeed be starting over with a routine that starts early in the morning and ends in the evenings with you all as part of the "tired boys and girls club". INDOC is a short two weeks with fun aspects like the hours you'll spend on the KP waterfront to less pleasant aspects like cleaning stations. All of which though will indeed be different from being "at the top of the heap" in your high schools as you are now, but in the end the majority of you all will make it through and be very glad you did.

Thanks for advice I am glad to see I am least training correctly. Apgallozzi do you play any sports?

Yes, futbol haha. I want to at the academy cause I was told that the upperclassmen on the team are keen to helping the plebes out, but I am afraid it will take up too much time and get in the way of academics and nobody wants to get the horrible D word. Disenrolled:eek:

Don't forget - on 31 July there will be the Alumni/Midshipmen 5K run. Last year all the plebe candidates had to run, although there was no required time for completion. However, Adm. Worley offered extra liberty for those finishing in under 19 minutes. The times ranged from 16:59 to 46:06.

O sweet that sounds pretty cool, that's only 3.1 miles. Ha yea I could guess from your avatar. I think I actually might join the powered boat crew. I heard it's really great and you even get to go fishing occasionally

Good choice- The best way to be the best big ship mate or engineer (which is why you are at KP) is to spend lots of time on small ships.

Just a mom's view, keep in shape but be careful too, you don't want to get hurt before I day

Dont worry I do all of my workouts wearing bubblewrap

Three graduates of the 09 class who served on the "Growler" are currently working on tugs. The experience they received on the waterfront is already paying off in the real world. Take the advice...if you want to work on the water...work on the waterfront.
