I will be going to SLS during the second week (June 5th) and I am a little nervous. While I think that I am prepared for the physical training, it would be reassuring to know what kind of activities I will be doing.

If anyone that went to SLS in the past, and can recall the kind of physical training done there, that would be awesome!

i went second week last year, awesome experience! just concentrate on the components of the CFA as you will be taking it during the week. The PT your gonna end up doing in the morning is not difficult at all aside from a bunch of pushups and a whole lot of flutterkicks. The rest of the excersise is mostly athletic games. You can't really prepare for the immense amount of dodgeball that you will be playing haha but its an amazing week nonethless. if you have any other questions feel free to pm me

Guess it depends on where you go to school! I swear, that's all my kids do in their gym class at the HS!

My gym classes in NYC are a joke, its not worth even dressing up knowing all you will do is sit for 20 minutes of the period and barely do anything for the remaining 10 mintues.

It's the same in NJ.. except that we have 90 minute classes :shake:

I'll admit that I'm somewhat below average in most of the events. I have been training for several weeks, but I'm still about 10ish push-ups and sit-ups below average.
My pull-ups are right near average at about 9-10.
My shuttle run is fine (I'm a sprinter) but my mile will probably be about 7-8 min, as I'm not exactly a distance runner so my endurance is poor..
My basketball throw has been about 10 ft below average as well.
However my physical stats have improved quite a deal from when I originally started. I'm a very light build, and weigh only about 130 lbs to my 5' 7". If need be, I'll retake the CFA in the fall, after continuing my training over the summer.
I was intending to have an extra several months to train and improve, but acceptance to SLS surprised me, and now the CFA is several months earlier than I planned. So I'm not at the level I desire due to this, but I shall continue my training and workouts to continue getting bigger and in much better shape.

I feel like the pushups are the hardest part for me. Everything else is fine (average or just above), but my pushups always plateau right at 45-47. I'm not sure why. It would really stink to have to retake the whole test just because my pushups were low, but I will if I have to. I think we should just go in with the midset to do our best, but know that we will have another chance if we're not happy with the outcome.

Nothing to stress over...you have the CFA, various team sports, and morning PT. PT consists of regular stuff you would expect, like push ups, sit ups, flutter kicks, jumping jacks, crunches, stretches, cherry picking, and the full body destroyer. Don't forget marches to and from meals :\

Wow that's funny I'm a long distance runner opposed to a sprinter. If you need any help with the mile maybe I could help you.

Don't worry that much if you're a little under average on one or two events you can still pass ok. My basketball throw was bad and I was under on the pushups and I passed. As far as the morning PT you do, don't worry about it unless you are totally out of shape

All you really gotta worry about is the CFA. The PT you do in the mornings isn't bad at all.

For me it's the breathing/endurance. After about half a mile, I tend to start losing my breath and my pace starts to drop, and declines during the rest of the mile.
Whenever I would go on runs with some of the distance runners (who wouldn't leave me behind, and would stay at my amateur speed, haha), or for warm-ups/cool-downs, we usually stayed in several groups, pacing one another, which was a big help. But on the CFA, pacing isn't allowed, so that'll be a tad discouraging for me. But since it's the last event, I'll just push thru it to the end.

I think we should just go in with the midset to do our best, but know that we will have another chance if we're not happy with the outcome.

That's exactly the mindset I plan to keep. I know I won't be as good as many of the others who take the CFA, and accept that. I'm a very light build. Most other guys my age and around my height weigh about 30-40 lbs more than me!! Yet I've improved enough that I can near , if not surpass many of these dedicated sports players, when it comes to my workouts.

But I will still try my best, and continue to work towards improving myself!

And by the sounds of what several of you say, the PT doesn't sound bad at all. I'm in decent enough shape that I can stay together with other athletes and hold my own. Maybe the dodgeball would be a bit challenging....due to my aim. I don't exactly have the greatest throwing arm or accuracy.

Hey I have a question. How will they restrict any pacing when we'll be running in groups?

the way they did CFA at SLS last year was pretty simple, they set us up in groups of 5-10ish (im not actually sure the exact number) and you were not necessarily with your squad or platoon. you went through the events with your group and cadets were at each station. for the mile, you run on a road next to the hudson, up a half mile and back, with your small group. sometimes they combined two groups for the mile.

with regards to pacing, everyone who is running in your group is trying to get the best time possible, so no one is allowed to or even willing to pace someone else.

be prepared for your arms to hurt going into the mile because its less than ten mins after pushups =)

I too have a very light build 130 5'8 but I run 4:27 and 9:49 and that was as a soph. You just have to work very hard and be extremely dedicated and that goes for everything. I am not worried about the mile for obvious reasons but the pull-ups and basketball throw I am I still have passing scores though and am working very hard to improve them. Also I come down 5,000ft in altitude so hopefully I will have lots of energy.

I am almost exactly the same weight and height as you! haha but if you need help on the mile run, I'm a distance runner and you can try to keep my pace to make you run a good one. What week are you going to?

I'm going to week 1. And you?

As for you globalview2, your times are quite impressive to say the least, wow! Some of the best seniors at my school who did Track had times like those, and yet you were only a sophomore!

You guys probably won't be running the CFA mile together, even if you are at SLS the same week. usafacademy 4, you'll probably do better than you expect just because you won't want to finish behind the many girls who'll be running in the sixes :shake:

Does anybody have any idea what the minimums are or just ball-parks. I will no doubt do my best and I have been working but just curious.
I am going to week two anybody else?
