One of the things my son felt was most useful was a good quality electric razor. He initially did not plan to buy/bring an electric razor, but I was worried about him having to take the time to shave so I bought him a nice braun electric shaver and he has been so glad to have it. He grows a heavy beard quickly and during basic needed to do a quick shave twice a day to keep the shadow at bay. This was such a great time saver for him.
 
I got a nice Braun before basic and still use it every day. It gets the job done. For jack's, bring a manual razor just in case, but mine lasted the whole time.
 
Just throwing it out there... I just got back from orientation and they recommended that basic cadets use manual razors because it us quicker and more eficient. Often electric razors take longer and don't get a close enough shave to meet standards.
 
It depends on your facial hair. An electric wasn't good enough for me. I might be able to get away with using one for a day or two, but under the scrutiny of BCT, it didn't work so well.

Now, my roommate...he could shave with a spoon every other day, and no one would notice.
 
I also would like to recommend an electric shaver. For me it is much faster and easier than a manual razor blade and the end result is indistinguishable. It's important to spend the money to get a high end shaver though, since you really get what you pay for.
 
I have a series 7 braun. Works wonders.

My razor has a base for cleaning and charging. Is that allowed during 1st BCT?

I just brought the charger for basic and had my parents ship out the base for acceptance.
 
The Braun Series 7 is what my son has. He just brought the charger to basic, cleaned the razor manually during basic, and then I included the base/cleanser unit in his acceptance goodie box. The razor did hold it's charge well enough to work throughout Jacks Valley, but he did bring along a disposable razor just in case. He has been very happy with this razer.
 
Our son took his Phillips Norelco 8240 XL with him, and he said it worked and continues to work great. His charge lasted all though Jack's Valley. Of course, I hardly see it when he comes home because he only uses it when he gets ready to go back because he is not about to shave everyday at home!
 
Electric razors are great and all but keep in mind it is dependent on the type of beard you have. I've been disposable razors for most of my life but halfway through 2nd semester I was sick of waking up extra early to shave (I'll have stubble by the morning) so I bought a electric razor. This was the top of the line weed whacker gardening tool hands down and it left me with stubble (got a form 16) on the neck and actually takes much longer than shaving with an ordinary disposable. It also left me with some pretty bad razor burn/acne. Yes, I used it for more than 3 weeks and then gave up. Luckily they have a money back deal if you still don't like it after a month.

So, if you plan on getting an electric razor, get it now and see how you like it.
 
I recommend the Norelco Arcitec razor...slight higher price than the competition but it shaves really well and the battery will last two months - and that's after using it for a year.
 
So there isn't any way to charge electric razors at Jacks?
 
No. Though any decent electric razor's battery should last through your Jack's Valley experience.
