Nickname

On the application there is a spot for a nickname.
For what reasons will they use it if I place one?
 
Like if your legal name is Vincent and you go by Vinnie or something like that I think.
 
Many reasons, such as security background checks. Or if you're from new jersey, like me, and you have a nick name like "Vinnie the Butcher", they might be concerned. But mostly to avoid confusion when referring to you to others that they be speaking with. e.g teachers, friends, family, etc...
 
another reason to put something in that box would be if you go by your middle name. My oldest son goes by Ryan, which is his middle name, but his first name is actually Michael
 
Or like in my son's case. His first name is Anthony but he goes by Tony. I'm sure his teachers would eventually figure out who Anthony is....

It's actually a vital part of the application, to see if it would look "cool" on the side of a fighter jet. Nicknames such as "Spanky," "Pappy," or "Hawk" are given preference.

Applicants with nicknames such as "Stinky" or "Shorty Big Head" will be rejected forthwith.

Okay...okay...

Actually its extremely helpful for us ALO's as the full name shows up and then so does the nickname.

THAT helps us when we contact you. I once called a candidate's home and asked: "Hello...may I please speak with Forrest?" (Seriously, that is his FIRST name!)

The guy (his father) that answered seemed to be startled, then he sorta "giggled" and said: "Oh, do you mean my son, Pete?"

LONG story short...it's a family name, all the first born males are named Forrest but they ALL go by their middle names!

Would have been VERY nice to know that when I called!
