Well, everyone, I'm the first one to get back from SLS Week 1! It was awesome and it solidified my need to go there! Thank you to all the Cadets who help and Col. Betchhelder for being the SLS organizer! Also, SGT. WOODS for being my Squad Leader! 4th Squad 1st Platoon!!!! Like a Boss!!!

I was in your squad! SLS was amazing and everyone going tomorrow get ready for a truly awesome experience. Haha Sgt Ross had her ups and downs..

You guys have any tips or advice? Anything I should bring thats not on the packing list?

I leave tomorrow at six for Session II.

4th Platoon, 5th Squad! Go Sergeant Ulmer!

"5th Squad!"
"WHERE'S YOUR GUIDON?"
"IT'S RIGHT HERE SERGEANT WEST!!!"

"Purple Cobrasssss"
"READY TO STRIKE!"
"WITHOUT YOUR GUIDON!!!"

:yllol::yllol::yllol:

That was a sufficient substitute for the original plan of waking up 5th platoon in the middle of the night, pretending to be cadre. :shake:

Make sure to bring EVERYTHING on the packing list as far as underwear, socks, etc. You will do lots of PT followed by showers, so make sure you have enough. You don't need other clothes, because you will be wearing only one of two uniforms that SLS gives you. And bring your A-game for the CFA. The CFA is given by order of your platoon, so if you are in 5th platoon you will be running the mile in the middle of the day. Beat the heat!

You guys are getting me pumped. Leave tomorrow at 10:37. Gosh. Can't wait.

So does this mean that you are going to change your username?

Not necessarily true. 4th Platoon was the last group to take the CFA this past week. After we finished, they took all the equipment and took it down and started to clean up, since we were the last group to run thru it.

But yes, pack all they say, maybe a couple pairs of socks extra and consider undershirts for your polos. You get two polos for the whole week. To prevent having to wash them in the shower with me or in my sink, I wore undershirts each day. Sure the undershirt was the one which may have gotten damp, and I was a tad hotter wearing it, but it kept my polos dry and kept them from smelling.

And a word of advice. Don't leave your waterbottle anywhere or let it out of your sight unless you have permission of your squad leader or a cadre member. (And yes, drink a lot of water. You can always refill it, and need to stay hydrated)

A mega word of advice. DO NOT use ANY of the cadre's stuff or move it around from the shower shelves/lockers. And be sure to listen to their rules of being clothed to & from showers. 4 candidates decided to break those rules/common sense...and the whole platoon had to leave breakfast 10 min early to get yelled at by the cadre and then do push-ups to a cadence pace that left most people dying to hit the ground. (And if you hit the ground, it only got worse for you.)

All in all, be smart with your decisions. Your poor choices can make the rest of your squad, and even platoon, have to suffer as well. Think about your buddies when you're not sure if your actions can get you in trouble or not.

LTC(P) Batchelder was one of my Plebes waaaaay back in the day! Gosh, I'm getting old! Glad you enjoyed SLS and best of luck as you continue your admission process. Go Army!

Actually we were 4th platoon 1st squad. But amen about SGT. Woods! He was the best squad leader ever. Anyone that gets him for 2nd session, you are lucky! Trust me there was never a dull moment. But no one can top our squad. We were a very unique group of kids :thumb: I could take up this whole forum explaining but will let you guys experience it yourselves.

P.S. usafacademy4, what was your nickname? I got nicknamed hater somehow but it was funny.

If any of you end up in Woods', Safford's, or Wright's squad, watch out for syrup chugging contests :yllol:

Like a boss!! And by the way, Our squad was the dodgeball champ, at least in our platoon!!!! WOOT!

Oops I coulda used your post to spell guidon but yes that was totally amazing!! And I was one of the lucky few who got to see it get taken and know the whole plan from when it started last night :thumb: Sgt. Woods is totally beast. I felt sorry for the kid who was in charge of the guidon. But it was so so funny. I think there might be video of it going on youtube.

P.S. For all of you that don't know what is going on, Sgt. Woods took 5th platoon's guidon last night and took it to the roof and waved it around above them during formation this morning :yllol:

3rd platoon proved its worth!
we had the top guy in the CFA (max pushups, pullups, and crunches, and a 5:30 mile) and we had the "most excellent candidate"

Just a heads up, pack lots of underwear and socks, you shower in the middle of the day and may use more than 2-3 pairs depending on which platoon you are in and the amount of physical activity assigned.

HAVE A BLAST, it's not meant to be easy, but it is still meant to be enjoyable should you let it be

Nah man 5th platoon 2nd squad, SGT Pickett...best squad. 5th platoon was best by far, we smacked 4th platoon in dodgeball, plus 4th was cheating like crazy still lost to us and our spectacular cadre...as for the flag, they were just mad for losing all the time.

Cheating? We didn't cheat. And maybe next time you guys should keep better track of your guidon :yllol: Actually 3rd platoon took it first. We were plannin on it and saw a kid go over and take it. Sgt Woods was like "Dang, wait." He walked over to the kid and yelled "Hey! Give me that back right now!" The kid and his friends freaked out. Then he just walked back over with it. It was that easy :yllol::yllol::yllol:

And definitely bring way more socks and underwear. I had to actally do some laundry in my sink cause I ran out. It is better to have extra then to run out.

Good to hear how you enjoyed SLS. Try to keep up with some of the candidates you met. It will help you through the application process and next summer during Beast.

i didnt mean cheating with the flag, nah we dont have to worry about that because i overheard a mention of hours for the cadre responsible in taking the flag...good for them. no we beat you in dodge ball and you guys were just mad, beat by us and the cadre Hooha 5th platoon, didn't you guys copy us with that as well? Doesn't matter, it was all very fun, but 4th platoon should not have been disrespectful with taking our colors, if we did that, we would have been "smoked' as lieutenant Prendergast told us

LUMBERJACKS!!! SO MUCH WOOD! lol sgt wilde

I was in 4th Squad 1st Platoon as well... it was awesome! Ditto on Sgt. Ross. For all you guys who have her, don't be late to formation and don't forget your water bottle

Lol we kicked your butt in dodgeball the second time around, and even in the first game when we only had one guy left he was still doing work on your team. So your cadre beat ours so what, it isn't like you did anything to cause that. Trying to flame other platoons while hiding behind a computer is just disrespectful man in the end were all on the same side. One team, One fight

4th platoon, 5th squad! Go sergeant ulmer!
