Does anyone know of any Christian Colleges that have a Naval ROTC unit? One of my friends wants to do NROTC while attending a christian college, so I thought I'd help him out.

Thanks! :thumb:

Why wouldn't you just have your "friend" go to the Navy ROTC site and peruse the list of colleges? In addition to not doing his own research or posting his own questions is he also not able to determine which NROTC colleges are also Christian colleges?

Since there are many version of what a Christian College, one would want to pick for themself. Here's a hint. Ther's not that many overall NROTC colleges. even fewer are associated with a church , faith or religious expression. Most are of the same denomination as Notre Dame. Also recall that NROTC scholarships are weighted to more technical majors. It's sort of self selecting.

That was uncalled for. There is absolutely nothing wrong with helping out a friend who is interested in an ROTC program. I'm sure several people here have helped out others in their search for information on either a ROTC program and/or academy. That is the point of this forum anyway, to help each other out. If you don't have anything useful to post then don't post it.

Maybe he was hoping to get some personal experience or simply well-educated advice? Sometimes just looking at websites doesnt give us a perfect representation. That was definitely the case for the school I went to.

Either way, I dont have any info on religious colleges. Sorry

I believe aglages has helped out quite a few on this forum. also his/her post did provide some helpful insight

Sam: from what I can tell by looking at the list of NROTC schools that host or have a cross town affiliation- there are pretty much no Christian schools listed. (Christian in the sense that I believe you mean it-members of the CCCU). There are Christian Colleges near others that offer NROTC - but I don't know if a student is allowed to take NROTC if they are not enrolled at a cross affiliated college. There are several well known Catholic colleges that host NROTC units or are cross town affiliated with one including Holy Cross; Boston College, Notre Dame and Georgetown. Wheaton College (Il) hosts an Army ROTC unit which has a pretty good reputation- you might want to consider that option. Wheaton is a highly competitive College that is dedicated to its mission of producing highly educated Christian men and women. If I were searching for an environment that allowed me to participate in ROTC while pursuing a strong Christian approach to a college education I would certainly look there as one of my first options. I am sure there are others out there.
Good luck to your friend

Hello... my son will be attending Marquette University in Milwaukee this fall with the NROTC program. Affiliation: Catholic, Jesuit

Isnt Georgetown also a Jesuit school? I dont know how much of an influence it has on the lifestyle there but I do know all the DC schools share an NROTC unit.

Sam: I would think that a good methodology to approach this would be to look at the list of schools that are offering NROTC - (Found here:https://www.nrotc.navy.mil/colleges_nrotc_unitsXP3.aspx) and see if any of them are affiliated with schools that your buddy might be interested in. Similarly if you go to the Army ROTC web site they have a pulldown list of schools that offer ROTC by state:
http://www.goarmy.com/rotc/find_schools.jsp
Looking at that- As I mentioned earlier - Wheaton in Wheaton Illinois; Calvin College in Grand Rapids MI (thru Western Michigan ); Liberty University (thru UVA ) all pop up- I'm sure there are a lot more, but you get the idea.
Good luck in your recruiting effort.

I'm just trying to help him out with his college selection. My friend is a rising senior who would like to go to a Christian college but wants to become a Nuclear Officer in the Navy. I've already suggested OCS to him, but he really wants to participate in NROTC (my guess is to get a feel of what the military is like and participate in summer cruises).

Well, he's never heard of this fantastic website before, so I thought I'd broach the question on here. You guys are awesome at giving advice to people applying to colleges. :thumb:

Thanks Bruno! I noticed that NROTC is probably has the least detachements out of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

Yeah Wheaton!:thumb:

While not as big as the Army ROTC Program, there are AFROTC Cadets at Wheaton as well. It's a cross town affiliate. (Not sure with who though)

Congrats on your USCGA appt.!
I know a young man who graduated and received his commission last year from a Christian University here in West Texas and was enrolled in Army ROTC at the cross town University. The Christian university is Lubbock Christian University and the state university is Texas Tech University.
