The Coast Guard has announced next year's summer training schedule for the Coast Guard barque Eagle, which will visit the East Coast, Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico.

Eagle will visit the following U.S. ports:

San Juan, Puerto Rico, May 7 to 10;
Corpus Christi, Texas, July 2 to 5;
Key West, Fla., July 16 to 19;
Miami, Fla., July 23 to 26;
Savannah, Ga., July 30 to Aug. 2;
and Wilmington, N.C., Aug. 6 to 9.

Eagle will visit foreign ports in the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico, including Cartagena, Colombia and Vera Cruz, Mexico, in May and June, in conjunction with the Vela Sud America 2010 celebrations that will include vessels from around the world.

Eagle will sail from New London on April 30 to begin the summer training cruises.

I'm assuming some of these (like maybe the last three?) are swab summer cruises. Are the earlier ones for the 3/c? Last year I seem to recall longer voyages for the older cadets.

Thanks Luigi. :smile:

oh wait, if I actually read on it says Eagle leaves on April 30. That does leave a bit of time before the actual shorter summer cruises.

Did I get it right? :cool:

The 3/c cruises (which last almost 5 weeks) will begin around May 8th or so.

It looks like they (3/c) will be cruising the coasts of South and Central America (Columbia and Mexico) before coming back and disembarking so the swab cruises for 2014 can begin in late July.

PS - If you double check that schedule of dates I posted, you will see a HUGE gap in there between May 10 and July 2 - that is when the 3/c's will be visiting their 1st foreign ports of call on the Eagle.

The 2014 swabs will get Miami, Savannah, and Wilmington as their port calls.

:cool:

Cool! Thanks for the update Luigi. Sounds like a fun summer. I know of one dad who will be jealous of his sons summer plans :wink:

Eagle in Savannah

Where does the Eagle usually dock when in Savannah?
At what point in the four (4) day port call do the companies normally make the "phase" switch? Thanks.

I heard a rumor that Eagle was going to sail over to Europe for summer of 2011. Does anyone know if this is true or not?

Eagle was just in Europe last summer, but anything's possible.

There IS a Tall Ships festival taking place in Ireland next summer so perhaps that may play a part?

But there is also a Tall Ships festival in British Columbia next summer as well, and Eagle has only visited the West Coast once in the last 7 years (2008).

I have heard that Miami switched to Ft Lauderdale for the first swab voyage, is this true?

Yes. Eagle will be in Port Everglades which is Fort Lauderdale.
