I thought I was in the 29th district of New york. Every local adult ive spoken to agreed that Mr. Massa was our representative (before he stepped down).

However, another student from my school said his representative is chris lee (from the 26th NY district)

So I went to Chris Lee's website and on it he stated the 26th dirstrict contains certain counties.

two of those counties are 'livingston' and monroe'
My house is near the border bewteen these two counties...but it doesnt matter because both of these counties are in his jurisdicton.

But when I eneterd my zip code into the website that find your congressional district, they all say I am in the 29th.

So how do I figure out which distric im really in?

It's by your zip code when you enter it into that zip code lookup system. Sometimes its not divided up by counties specifically. For example, the northern part of my county has a different representative than the southern part of my county.

Zip codes are not the way to go...in our town, we have 2 congressmen for the same zip. Our town, all of 35K people had 2 Congressman. One zip code was split. Live on base..you belonged to one Congressman, live off and you belonged to a different one.

Go to your GC and ask them who your MOC is, your gc will also be able to give you the contact info for ALO/ALO/BGO.

Not to be the downer, but you are putting the cart before the horse. You need to get assigned an ALO/MALO/BGO first. The way you get that is by becoming an applicant (i.e, passed the PCQ hurdle).

MOCs will NOT be reviewing their slate for MONTHS. (OCT-NOV time frame). You can write to them, but it will probably make NO IMPACT. Most MOC's have a review committee. This committee can be comprised of staff or it can be comprised of community hierarchy (Business and military). Your file WILL be held until the closing date. You can submit 2 days after they open, but you will not hear until after their close date.

MOCs can be a very long process.

For example with our DS:
ALL MOCS opened in August

Sen A & B had cut off 10/15,, Congressman 10/31
Sen A announced in December---no interviews
Sen B announced in December their selection for interviews in JANUARY. This Senator waited until the last possible date to announce.
Cong announced in mid-November ---no interviews.

ONE THING TO REALIZE IF YOU HAVE NOT BEEN TOLD...NY MOCS TALK TO EACH OTHER. In other words historically if you have a nom from Sen A they will ask you to remove yourself from Sen B's list.

NO OFFENSE What you really need to be doing right now is getting your teacher recs in line. Get their personal email addresses. Start asking about typical MOC essay prompts. Start practicing the CFA. MAKe sure you have no Medical issues.

Good on you for wondering about your MOC, but trust me, the minute the SA clears you in the PCQ to become an APPLICANT your ALO/MALO/BGO will tell you who your MOC's are for your scenario.

In the end: your MOC will work out, instead of GOOGLING who it is start throwing a Basketball or do 1 more Pull Up. You need a NOM, but you also need to be the highest WCS to win that apptmt.

a majority of your posts here is based on the assumption ive done nothing else. Ive got my teachers writing recs, I run every week, I practice my CFA.

The reason my MOC is such a pressing isssue so early right now is because Mr. Massa stepped down..and the have chosen NOT to fill the vacancy untill november. So I have no way to contact and get to know my congressman. I am now disadvantaged.

I also found my mom's voter card. And on it it states the 29th district.

I think that solidifies the 29th for me, if we vote for the 29th district we must be in it.

Nick - correct, if your mom votes in the 29th then you are in the 29th.

To use Zip codes you need to us the +4 Zip Code
It is not uncommon for Congressional Districts to be split among counties and even towns.

I would not recommend asking your guidance counselor. Our high school covers three congressional districts - and it's a small high school. It's just that it's rural, covering several towns and PA is very gerrymandered.

For those looking for their US Represenative go here:
http://www.house.gov/zip/ZIP2Rep.html

if you need help locating your zip +4 go here:
http://zip4.usps.com/zip4/welcome.jsp
and input your address.

Nick - one more thing, keep doing what you are doing. Apply to both US Senators. When you get a US Rep, they will take over from Massa and have the same number of vacancies that Massa's office did. Don't forget, they have until the end of January to submit their slates.
It also would be prudent on your part to make sure Academy admissions is aware of your current lack of a US Rep.

I called the Academy guidance and basically all the guy said was that the post will be filled eventually. He real;ly didnt help at all or seem to have any knowledge of nominations.

another problem:

because the 29th district has no representative, there is no website, and no availiable application. !?

Admissions is right. There is nothing for you to do right now - there is plenty of time though. Don't worry about this yet. Seriously!

Nick,

1st off, my intention was never meant to say you have not done anything else, it was to assist in illustrating that there are alot of aspects in applying to an SA. There are many lurkers on this site, and to not address that the priority right now should be lining up the recs would create harm to them. Many candidates will place getting the nom on the top of the list, believing that getting recs can wait until they return in the fall. The problem with this theory is they forget that these teachers and gcs will also be hit with students applying EA at the exact same time. Take a large hs and the candidate could be behind the 8 ball come Sept 1 regarding priority for getting recs. Additionally, I tend to err on the Just In Case side.

As far as the SA not knowing, this is not shocking because that is not their priority. Their priority is to process candidates and noms. If you look at the system, it is broken up into REGIONS and Last Initial. That means they deal with MANY MOCs. Not many people realize that at the Pentagon there is an office for every SA, that only deals with noms. They are the liaisons between the SA and the hill. Come July, they will "officially" brief all MOCs on the process and how many people they are charged with currently. They have several boards in this office. Each board has the name of the MOC, who is charged to them, (even color coded for yr group) and after the MOC announces their slate, there is a board with the names of their slate. It is old school technology. I personally know this because I interviewed for a position at the AFA office.

Even though Massa is gone you can still contact them directly with questions http://clerk.house.gov/member_info/vacancies_pr.html?pr=house&vid=31
By federal law and the Rules of the House of Representatives, the employees of the former Representative continue to staff the offices of the congressional district under the supervision of the Clerk of the House of Representatives. This interim vacant status continues until a new Representative is elected to fill the unexpired term. Currently, the congressional district does not have voting representation. Although the scope of the vacant congressional office is limited, constituents of the district are invited to contact this interim office for information and assistance as indicated below.
Until a new Representative is elected, the vacant congressional office cannot take or advocate positions of public policy. Constituents may choose to express opinions on legislation or issues to your elected Senators or wait until a new Representative is elected and takes office. Mail received by the vacant office will be acknowledged.

I would suggest visiting that web site and contacting them through their published numbers.

I know it gives you no solace, but you are not the only one standing in these shoes. NY is very competitive, and I would bet that for this district there are probably 500 hs kids+ wondering the same thing. Like I said, even at the Pentagon, they are aware of the issue.

Finally, NY "talks" to each other and shares the wealth, I am sure in the next month, or so after the July briefing they are at least going to discuss how to handle this matter. It maybe that since they are known to share the wealth that the 29th might get special attention regarding their slates.
