So... question. I'm new to this. Bear with me.

So I'm currently applying for the year 2015 and my portal says that my initial evaluation is pending and that this doesn't happen, at the earliest, until July 1, at which point my magical portal will open. So what I'm asking is, does the portal automatically open to everyone, or are some people kicked out of the running as soon as the initial evaluation?

You can not qualify academically.

Thanks for the reply, although I'm a bit confused as to what you mean. Do you mean that the evaluation is not based upon academics?

My file says the same thing, and I'm hearing that other candidates are recieving their candidate kits. So, I dont know what is wrong. If someone can help, that would be great.

I'm not sure what Vampsoul meant either.

Once you've opened a file, it will be reviewed to determine if you are a competitive candidate.
This is determined basically on two pieces of information: Your test scores (PSAT/SAT/ACT) and your class rank.

If you are found not competitive , you will be sent a letter telling you that your file is closed until your overall or academic record improves.
If your file is incomplete (usually means missing test scores and class rank), you will be sent a letter saying that WP needs the missing info and your file will be inactive until they receive the missing info.
If you are found competitive, then you will be receiving an email that will give you your portal login ID number which will open up the on-line application called the Second Step Kit (SSK).

I heard that the SSK wouldn't be opened until July 1 but could be that they are already starting. Don't sweat if you've heard some have received the SSK and you haven't. If could be that your file hasn't been reviewed yet or is still being reviewed. Patience grasshopper.

While you are waiting, what you can do NOW is:
1) work on getting your teachers lined up for the SOE's.
2) Practice CFA
3) Keep taking the SAT/ACT . WP superscores your test scores so keep taking them and make yourself as competitive as possible!

Once you are allowed to access the SSK then:
1) Complete as soon as you can. Complete as soon as you can. Complete as soon as you can. Complete as soon as you can. (Hope I wasn't unclear!)
2) Once you get notification on scheduling your medical exam , schedule it ASAP!

Ok - well that is much more info than any of you asked for.
Got carried away!
Good luck!!!

I believe when vampsoul said: "You can not qualify academically" she meant that that is one reason why not everyones files open... your file may not open because you do not meet the academy qualifications academically. So she was answering to say that not everyone will have a file opened.

Thanks everybody for the replies. :) I know that I am not yet competitive - I received that letter about a month ago, because of my math SAT score... it's at 510. I re-took it this month, though, and should be getting my scores online in about a week, so hopefully I did better. I know the average is between 600-699, so we'll see, I guess. Thanks again, guys!

Oh, as my brother just reminded me though, I didn't actually receive a letter from WP - that was from USAFA. It was my admissions counselor who told me my score wasn't competitive. :p

Yes, that is what I meant. Thank you for clarifying.
