Company Assignments Have Been Mailed

Huh? What ever happened to Stalag 17?

Anyone wanna guess why?

It's not fit for family consumption....

Because of the sex scandal that occurred in 29th Company I believe. I am not sure of the year but isn't that the reason?

I really wouldn't worry about the company's nickname. From the list presented earlier in the thread, maybe one or two of those are actually current, and the name really has no bearing on the atmosphere of the company. IE, "Free 19" refers to an incident some uncounted years ago where nearly the whole company was on restriction, hence the cry "Free 19!" That in no way implies that if you're in 19 you can expect a hard time.

Everthing you've heard about 25 is true. They love each other, for the most part, and are univerisally hated by the Brigade. This will be particularly true if you're in 26 (Rough Riders), as you'll have to deal with them over plebe summer as well.

If you're going to 26, feel free to PM me with any questions. I just spent my 4 years there. On a side note, getting Color Company was a complete surprise to everyone. I'm pretty sure we were the last ones 'trying' to get it.

I was in the presence of the historic mass fry - not my Battalion, thank goodness - when 19 went down in flames sometime between 1996 and 1999. "Free 19" became the rallying cry, and I'm actually rather glad it has stuck around. The incident really drew the company together. I can't recall what it was they did, because over the course of my tour, the fries came in many shapes, colors and quantities. Company nicknames (and cultures) come and go, and as noted on here, can change overnight with new leadership, either staff or midshipmen, or just one hugely memorable event. I do remember the morning meetings with the DepDant and all the BattOs, especially on Monday, and occasionally laughing our heads off at whose companies did the worst things. I'm talking garden-variety administrative sins against MidRegs, not serious stuff against UCMJ.

Correct.

I'll let imaginations do the rest.

Not exactly what I would want my company remembered for decade after decade....

Not sure how hard 26 "tried" to get color company but per my mid the only real tangable benifiit is some type of preferred firsty parking spots on the yard this comming semister.

Zaphod - Not my quote. That quote was from DMeix. Somehow the quote button did not highlite his quote properly.

My comment is just the last sentence.

They have a Bear costume that they put plebes in and make them carry a shark around at every single event. They are also complete joes, the live on 4th deck so they're naturally isolated and by themselves. They are just WEIRD in general.

Also, don't lie about 26 trying to get color company. You know your CC was super excited for the Supe to give her mom a nice "pearl necklace".

Oops. I should have caught that.

Wannabe2013 - what does complete joes mean? Thanks!

Heh-heh....

I lived on 1-4 and 3-4 for three years. We had fun.

We've been on vacation, so we just got our mail from the last week, son will be in D Company, 8th Platoon. Any body have any insight or comments on 8?

How the tide does turn...25th company was my what-did-they-do-bad-today company, and much of it was directly attributable to one weak company officer who wanted to be liked rather than respected. 24th company was my overly-locked-on company, and yes, they were up on 4th deck in 6th wing. All the joes/tool companies were over in 1st Batt - we all thought they breathed too much of the air from the Commandant's passageway and all the striper egos running around over in that neighborhood. Not sure what Batt lives closest now. My other three companies in 5th Batt were reasonably normal, had fun, followed the bell curve for performance, conduct and relative merit vs the rest of the 30 companies.

Not much you can do about any of it as a plebe, except deal with it.

It makes me so happy to hear that BattO's have the same opinions as the mids...even if they won't admit it to us.

Well, it used to be called "Skate 8" way back when...

Of course we can't admit it - what's the fun in playing cops and robbers if you let the robbers know what you're thinking?! There were and are some very fine striperfolk, but, mirroring the ways of the world and the Fleet, there will always be people you know to be jerks who are your fellow officers or immediate bosses, and their bosses will not see any of that. Every time a flag list comes out, there are people we say, oh yes, of course, great guy/gal, others we say well, ok, and then there are the names that make us go - really??

Ok, enough off-thread musings.

Happy Youngsterdom to you, Wannabe.
