LOOK AT THE OTHER THREADS.

In truth, the West Point demographic is fairly narrow in that you'll all be smart, athletic, and leadership-oriented. So before you start the 15th "how am I looking" thread, take 5 minutes and read the others. You might just say to yourself, "Gee, my profile is really similar to this guy's" and thereby come away with the benefit of all the comments made on someone else's post.

Also y'all should take a peek at the class profiles. Compare yourself to the profile of people who were accepted gives you a good perspective about your chances. That helps more than anyones speculation here. (except maybe for the MALOs/FF reps here) Also, no one here knows if you will get in or not. Even if you look like a shoe in or a weak candidate you still are going to have to apply and wait and see.

Here is 2013s profile. http://www.usma.edu/Class/2013/profile.asp I dunno when 2014s will be posted but I shall be gone by then and you can find it yourselves by clicking on the class pages links on the right side of the usma home page.

Also, West Point has rolling admissions, which means that if a prospective candidate applies, is found qualified, and appointed early on, then later on if a candidate with a stronger application comes along, but there are no more spots left, the weaker candidate does not lose his/her spot.

The most important thing is to actually apply and get everything done as early as possible. Getting in isn't just a matter of being qualified, but making sure that admissions knows you are.

You can be qualified up the wazoo, but if you don't apply soon enough or don't try at all, you won't be as likely to get an appointment.

That being said, if you think you might be a weak candidate apply anyways and do it early. Just because you might see a bunch of people more qualified than you applying doesn't mean that you won't get in. I personally know people who were way more qualified than I am who were applying but due to not taking deadlines seriously, they are not members of the class of 2014.

The best thing to do is apply early. The very worst thing that can happen is that Admissions can tell you no. And even then, life is not over.

When you say "apply early", what's a rough estimated date? For instance, is that the summer of junior-senior year? Because in my case, I'm not completely satisfied with my current SAT score and am planning on to re-take it October of my senior year, which is the earliest it is distributed. So basically when's the good and bad times to apply for nomination?

Finish your application early and continually update admissions and your MOC's

Applying to WP a nd applying for a nomination are two different things. Your MOC has application deadlines (check the website). I am pretty sure the deadline for most applications is sometime in October. The MOC app was as time consuming as the WP app.

You should get your application to West Point completed in the fall. I would strongly suggest October. Sooner is always better than later :thumb:

When I say apply early I mean that you should get everything done as fast as possible.

In your case, apply now, send the scores you have (you can always update them later) and move forward with other parts of your application.

Am I already behind a lot of people if I haven't got everything in yet? I got in most of my stuff in the first week since I was notified that applications were opening up June 15th, but I've just now finished my Candidate Statements

You're totally fine. Admissions won't even start looking at applications until next month. Most people probably won't start filling theirs out for at least a couple more months.

We generally tell candidates to have their file complete early - by which we mean by October. If you can have everything 100 percent done by then, you'll still be way ahead of the power curve. Personally I'd shoot for as soon as possible after returning to school (seems like there's always something you need from the principal, a counselor, teacher rec, CFA administrator - something you can't get over the summer) but try to get everything else done in the meantime.

awesome. I've got everything that I need from my teachers and counselor. All I need to complete are my candidate statements, and my CFA.

Also, will only have Swimming and Orienteering as sports hurt me a lot? I think I've definitely made up for it with several leadership positions, and I have a 30-39 hour job on a farm.
