how many appointments are given to those with jrotc unit nominations per academy?
or it solely depends on how competitive the applicant is?

my jrotc sasi will reserve a nomination slot for me if i can't get a regular nom

I'm a rising junior.

how competitive is SC for noms?

I'm pretty sure for USMA it's 5 at the academy total. You must be a member of any regular AJROTC unit or another branch that's an Honor Unit With Distinction to qualify. They rank the applicants who apply for any of the service-connected nominations, so yes, you should be competitive.

You apply for all the nominations at around the same time, so you probably won't know if you didn't get a "regular" nomination in time to submit your JROTC application paperwork. Your SAI can nominate 3 cadets. You're not concerned about the NOMINATION, but more so the APPOINTMENT. You can get as many nominations as you are eligible for, but if the SA doesn't deem you qualified you won't receive an appointment.

I have no idea about South Carolina.

navy allows 20 appointments per year using the ROTC/JROTC nomination.

Am I understanding correctly? :wiggle:

Since my daughter's AFJROTC unit was designated as a "distinguished" unit last year, she can receive a nomination from the unit to the USAFA, and not to any other SA? But if her unit were to have been designated a "distinguished unit with honors" she could have received a nom for any SA?

Thanks for clarification.

Straight from the USMA form I'm about to mail:

"Please check only one of the three blocks to certify your recommendation for a nomination. No candidate will be considered for a nomination in more than one ROTC category.
ROTCJR - Candidate is currently enrolled in an Army JROTC program at the institution listed.
ROTCSR - Candidate is currently enrolled in an Army ROTC program at the college/university listed
ROTCHM - Candidate will be named an Honor graduate of the institution listed, and that institution has been named an Honor School with Distinction by DA or other service orders covering the current academic year. The ROTC program is Army/Navy/AF/Marines"

Hopefully that helps!

There is a nomination form that will need to be filled out by your JROTC SAI.

That would be the form I was quoting from.

Also, on another related form two categories are
- I am a member of Army Junior ROTC (high school) or Army ROTC (college)
- I am a member of JROTC in a branch of service other than the Army and my unit is an Honor Unit with Distinction.

Maybe that's clearer. Again, this is just for USMA, I haven't started on my USNA stuff yet.

I still have a copy of the form that my son's SAI filled out for this past year somewhere. They also had to write something about the cadet they are nominating and why.
If the nomination is granted it will show up in your file.
