Unfortunately for the swabs (and their families) the weather in CT today is quite hot and uncomfortable. Hopefully the cadre will go a little easy on them.

Hot....Humid....and ?

Hellish?
Hectic?

Not enough caffeine this a.m. to help me figure this one out Boss.

I didn't think it was too bad, the A/C in Leamy Hall was cranked up, I was very comfortable.

I saw only 2 swabs carrying rolling suitcases (98% had backpacks), no school buses this year (they were nicer buses) to drive them up to the Arches at Chase Hall, plenty of motivated socks....

....AND I got not one, but TWO hugs from officer! :thumb: :thumb:

Hazy, hot n' humid....Thank goodness no Hail! Wish I could've bumped into officer and Luigi as well as many others...thought about holding a sign up...LOL!! Luigi...2 more from me! :thumb:

Yah, I know--absolutely stifling, but we were so happy to be there, it didn't matter much. I was taken aback with Chase Hall though. I couldn't believe how sauna-ish it was. I couldn't imagine trying to study in there; I would be completely KO'd. But someone reminded me that it's cooler in there when all the doors are opened with the wind streaming in through the windows. (They had all the doors closed to keep the rooms pristine I suppose).

I did see the medic standing off to the side during the swearing-in ceremony run to a cadet out of my view. I'm thinking locked knees and the heat may have made that one take a little rack time temporarily (bless their heart). My swab came over and all he wanted to do was sit down for a minute. He wasn't hungry or thirsty (they make them drink alot). I asked him, "Well watcha think?" and he said, "This is going to be a long 7 weeks." He then made a quick call to little brother and grandma back in Texas, gave me and my husband a tight squeeze and a prayer, and was off to join his new Echo family. I couldn't be prouder. GO BEARS!

Luigi,

Meeting you was definitely a highlight of the trip. I really appreciate you and the Parent's Association. I am now a full-fledged card carrying member. Y'all did an oustanding-OUTSTANDING--job of making us feel comfortable and welcome. I felt everything was very organized and the parents were very friendly.

I highly encourage every parent to join this group. Your membership dues will go towards an awesome adventure for your cadet. Plus you get the ListServ and some really cool goodies. :thumb:. Kudos to the Parents Association, and I'll see you in October for more hugs. -officer

Disey,

I so wish I could have found you. Luigi and I spoke of you, and he is so excited for you. We will all have to meet during Parent Weekend and track down Shellz. I just gotta meet her; she's been (and still is) such an encouragement for me. I'm so happy to be a CGA Mom alongside you (and the Exchange is really happy I'm CGA mom too after the damage I did on the MasterCard this weekend...hehehehe). -officer

My swab was the same way. He wanted his gatorade but didn't want anything to eat. He said "we just finished eating and we are going to have to eat again soon. Mom, they do feed us well.....":shake: He just wanted to sit for a minute. We asked him what he thought and his reply was "It's only 48 days". He was tired but still cracking some jokes so to me that was a great sign.

The parents association did such a wonderful job making everything go so smoothly. I believe that between all of the advice and the activities planned, it helped make it easier to let go knowing how much support our young people will have ( and us parents too!!)

Hi all! Finally home after our long trek from New London. What a great experience. We felt sooo good leaving son there! Even now, I am sooo impressed with his choice of schools/career. Everyone there was so nice and friendly and, most importantly, seemed to really care about his training and welfare.

I was happy to meet officer and islander. Luigi and 1982BGO, would love to have met you all! We will be back for Parents Weekend. Maybe we will find you then. Disey, I don't know how you did it all in time for R-day--I would love to meet you, as well! Also, shellz, if you can somehow "display" yourself at that weekend, we would be so appreciative to meet you!

Yes, the house is a little emptier...but he is where he wants to be! He slept well then night before R-day (I know, cause I was still awake!) and he was smiling when we got our 10 mins. with him after the parade on Washington Field. It was awesome! I can't wait to hear his stories/tales!

Thanks to everyone for their support and advice!!!!

We will definitely be up for Parents Day weekend. (Regardless of how this may interfere with our daughter's 'long Columbus Day weekend plans' :yllol:). Hope to see some of y'all there. Everyone looked great from pics I've seen posted on the Parents Ass'n website!

Sounds Good! I just PM'd you about pics from Mystic Flag Ceremony. If you can track the kid down, I would love some. -officer

Yes...Shopping at the Academy

Hubby proudly wears his blue Hawaiin shirt with the Coast Guard boats on it.

Just the opposite for the cadets--

Our 3/c came home for her summer break and we went clothes shopping. She saw an adorable tank top with anchors on it. As she was shopping, she kept getting drawn back to it. She finally told me that she really liked the top with the anchors, but her friends at the Academy would kill her if she bought it. She opted for a white one with navy stripes and said it still looked nautical.
