My son just left for AIM today, does anyone know if they tell them to call home before they take their phones away?

Daughter just got home from week 1 of AIM yesterday....they were told many things to do but calling home (on a phone at least) was not one of them:shake:....get ready for some GREAT stories!

Phones are put away. It's the Swab Summer experience :thumb:
We didn't hear one word from our AIMster all week when she attended last summer; they are very, very busy.

Thanks palimom,,,,,do you have any storys you can share?

I would LOVE to but that would SO spoil it for you and for him...my daughter called me from the airport and we talked for 1 1/2 hour about everything...some serious and some REALLY funny stuff. She could NOT stop talking to me about everything. Anything that does THAT to a teenager is priceless. Let's just say your son needs to pack his tenacity and sense of humor.

Just an opinion here....if you share stories on this forum, you may inadvertently spill the beans, so to speak, for future aimsters. I think the shock and awe of AIM is best when kids go in with no expectations.

If it were me, I'd keep the story sharing off the main board. The PM thing works well...

Like I said...just an opinion.

You know you're right shellz... would NOT want to ruin it for any future AIMster, thanks

How nice of everyone! My son leaves for AIM next Sunday!!!!!! I can't wait for the stories he will tell. My husband and I will be going to New London at the end of his week and we can't WAIT!!! I heard New London and the CGA is just BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! rangermom

It's purely selfish....my older son didn't go to AIM, but my younger will hopefully go in the future. I'm on here waaaay to often, and would probably read the advice and stories and find it difficult to keep my mouth shut. I'd spill the beans for sure!

Thanks for the " tip" Luigi59!
I hope its not that bad??? We will be staying in New London for 2 days.LOL rangermom

When I dropped my DS off at AIM last week, they asked his name, asked if he had a cell phone and gave him a bag to put it in and then they said walk through those doors and at the doors the sign said "no parents allowed".......his drop off happened as quick as you read the above!!

The best is seeing him on Friday for the Parent Day....it was like seeing a different kid and only in a couple of days. When I picked him up on Saturday he talked non-stop on the way to the Hartford airport and then when we got home we went out to eat with Dad & brothers and we listened to stories at the restaurant for almost 2 hours!!!

Bottom line......he wants to be a Plebe next year!!! I knew this would make or break him!!

I agree about don't post stories here, wait till you kids tell you..... I will tell you I was very impressed by the Coast Guard Academy information session for parents....I learned a lot.......but the stories made my husband and my eyes wide open and laugh a lot!!!

I frequently mix my metaphors, call his SDB's his SBD's, place my foot in my mouth, etc, etc. So, no worries. It goes with the territory!

Glad to hear your son had a good time at AIM. I wish we had known about it before my son's senior year. Not that it would have changed anything, but it sure does sound like "fun"!

The down town is a little, how can I put this, "economically challenged." Just before R-Day last year our soon-to-be Swab at the time was invited to meet with other Swabs at a New London coffee house. We were going to drop her off and pick her up later so the kids could be free to talk without "The Rents" (parents) hanging around. I looked around the coffee house and didn't like what I saw. There was a mentally ill man hanging around the place pan-handling "mints that he got from the church" and a number of other questionable folks. I suggested we all change plans and head for the mall.

Downtown New London is not the cute tourist seaport you'll find in Mystic.

BruceLTalbot,Well, ok then. I'm glad I joined this forum to get this information! I guess I will be staying in New London( thats where my hotel is) but hanging out in Mystic! LOL Except for the parents day on Friday! I will get to see USCGA for the first time!!!!! rangermom
