the calendar states that 4C are to return at 6 pm on Monday but somewhere else on this forum it states that last year's Plebes had to return on Sunday. Do they not have Labor Day off?
Also, what day is the football game? What day is Acceptance Day? When do they leave with the parents on Parent's Weekend?
I scheduled to be in NY on Monday because of the calendar. Should I go by the calendar in the future? Also it states that there is a Parent weekend the next weekend as well, this is stated on the Parent's page. Are we to be there that weekend too? If not, what do the kids do for the weekend? Stay at the school and sleep there?
thanks for the info.

Shutterbug, we were unfortunate that Parent's Weekend wasn't on Labor Day weekend last year. It fell on the next weekend. That's the reason our guys had to be back on Sunday. I think on the other years, they have been allowed to stay out until Monday.

There is a tentative complete schedule posted on the National Parents Association page here:

As you can see, there is plenty to do on Friday. The Acceptance Ceremony is Saturday morning. (I didn't cry when we dropped DD off. But watching her take the oath brought on the tears!) The Football Game will be Saturday afternoon and plebes cannot leave until after the game. Class of 2012's departure was late because the football game was interrupted by a hurricane. Ah, the memories.

Class of 2012 Parents Weekend was also not Labor Day Weekend, so our DD had to be back Sunday night. So enjoy an extra day with your Plebe. You might be able to get them to do something besides sleep and eat.

(I think the confusion over the date may be because the Parents Page also has the dates for 2011 listed.) The Regimental Calendar is a very useful tool and with it, you will often know more than your plebe. But it is subject to change as well. So it is a good idea to double check important dates.

Answer unknown

During the parent meeting on Indoc day Captain Fell made it pretty clear that the exact duration of the class of 2014's leave for Parents Weekend would be announced at a later date. As it states on the Regimental Calendar "Liberty for Plebe Class at discretion of Regimental Commander". I'm new at this, and some of the veterans please correct me if I'm wrong, but it appears leave is earned and not assumed.

So at this point I do not believe there is an answer to the question do the new plebes need to back Sunday or Monday.

I'm starting to see why people say this is a roller coaster ride.

Your correct...leave is earned and not expected.

You will find out that throughout your time at the Academy the dates and times, are only guidelines. This is only the first of many rollercoster rides you will face. Wait till you get to Fall Break or Thanksgiving leave and try to scheule their flights home (wow that was fun).

Remember USMMA runs on the same guise as all military orgainzations....
Hurry up and Wait!

:tank:

Being the wife of a retired Marine we are SOOOO used to the military Hurry Up and Wait mentality....:shake:

That being said, the waiting still is hard...

How do we register for the weekend activities?

We have our travel plans in place but I have not found how to get tickets for the weekend. I have not been able to access the informmation on the parents page.

What were the registration fees for the 2012 Parents Weekend, as according to the Parents Site they are requesting $175 per person which I am having a hard time understanding what all of that is for? I appreciate your response. As that much could be a hardship on some families that have air and hotel costs on top of that.

Thanks.

I called the number on the page cause we couldn't pay for the weekend yet. I was told they were not ready to take payment for tickets. I also asked if we had to pay and eat at the dinning hall. She told me that I didn't have to pay for anything but then all I would be doing was to be on campus. Visiting the classrooms, taking the tour and eating with your DS/DD would be restricted. I even asked if we could take a picnic lunch or something and she told me that our DS/DD would not be able to eat with us on our picnic lunch so it looks like if you want to see your DS/DD, then you have to pay up.
I cannot imagine that it would cost that much for lunch and dinner with your DS/DD.
Am I right in my undertanding that it cost extra to watch the football game? If you don't want to, you are stuck cause your DS/DD can't get off campus with you. They have to be there for the game. Am I correct?
Thanks,

PC's are required to attend the football game and sit as a unit. You will not be able to sit with your PC so if you're not a football fan, you can skip the game and catch up with your PC at the conclusion of the game. You will however miss seeing all the PC's do push-ups when a TD is scored and other antics they participate in during the game.
As far as meals go I recall last years plebe class was required to have lunch in Delano but several PC's came outside and joined family after their lunch during the monsoon that overtook us on Friday. The Friday evening dinner was very nice, far better fare than generally served in Delano per my PC and several others. Not sure if they were required to eat Friday evening in Delano but they are all involved in the beat retreat.

Someone mentioned earlier that the key to enjoying Parents weekend and Acceptance day is to be flexible. Even though you are there, the PC's are still required and expected to carry on with their normal daily routines with little modification to accommodate parents.

The Academy and Parents organization does a nice job with the weekend and it's well worth attending. You will get to see your child in their element and meet many of their friends and their respective families. If your PC elects to be a B split, they will not be on campus for 3rd and 2nd class years for Parents weekend.

With changes in budgeting and funding in the last year or so the Academy no longer funds Parents weekend so the Parents Club has taken responsibility for the event.

Parents Weekend

Ok......I wouldn't ask this early, but at INDOC at one of the Parents Association tables I received a letter from the Office of the Commandant dated July, 2010 that states plebes are not required to return to the Academy grounds until 1800 hours on Sunday. The Regimental Calendar that was also handed out states that liberty expires for Plebes at 1800 on Labor Day. (Monday) If anyone can clarify this discrepancy I'd appreciate it. Was hoping the Calendar was more gospel than not. Thanks!

I would also like to hear from someone in the parents association regarding the cost of the tickets being set at $175 per person for essentially two lunches, one dinner, and a ticket to Beat Retreat. And if you want to participate in the Midshipman Brunch on Sunday or the football game, that is extra.

Thanks

My sentiments exactly, as that is a high price to pay per person, along with airfare, hotel accommodations, and any other expenses for the weekend...that could really be a hardship on families that really want to see their plebes....:frown:

It's interesting but I just went to the Parents Page on the USMMA website and when you click on the Parents Weekend link again they have removed the registration fee from the PDF file...I wonder if they have had alot of questions about it and are rethinking the $175/per person price...

I was told this morning that they were going to remove the price and payment link cause they would not be ready for payment for a couple of weeks. That is the reason it has been removed, not for reconsidering the cost.

Does anyone know what the cost for these two lunches and a dinner was in the past? Has it always been this high?
