Is there some sort of KP dictionary:eek:...I get lost in the abbrieviations of things. I remember someone posted something like a list of terms but I can not locate it. It will help in the translation of posts and when I talk to my son because he rambled off some of them during the 5 min sunday phone call...I would like to learn the language:redface:

ATR??

the ATR is the person who assigned my son his ship recently. What do the letters mean? I don't see them on any list. Thanks!

Academy Training Representative

Ah yes, KP-speak. What a learning curve that was! Add to that dealing with Navy terms like ladder-well and zero deck. Hard for this Army family to adapt to. Here are a few I remember driving me nuts:

RTOA - Regimental Training Officer's Assistant (the one in charge of plebes - you'll hear about this one a lot!)
CTO - Company Training Officer
CTOPO - Add PO to anything and it is that officer's petty officer. So, the CTO is probably a first class. The PO is either 2nd or 3rd class.
RC - regimental commander

DD's first phone calls, and conversations during Parents' Weekend, were completely confusing as we adjusted to all of the new acronyms!

KPMUM2012,
Your list and mention of hearing those abbreviations during Acceptance Weekend made me laugh. First, they are the most important ones, and the ones you will hear over and over- mostly not with terms of endearment.

Parents Weekend, it was like this stranger who spoke a different language had taken over our son’s body. We didn’t want to keep asking: huh?, what? every time he opened his mouth so we pretended we knew what he was talking about. For months, when he called home, I had no idea who these people were- if they were people and not things or places.

One of the funniest things was watching the girlfriend- who is no longer- that weekend. I’m not sure if she wanted to laugh or cry but clearly this was not the same cool BF she said goodbye to in early July. It took a few months for her to realize that the change was permanent and then she was bye-bye, too.

That is great!! I can't believe that there is a glossary!! I had read somewhere of DS saying "...after his tattoo" -???? Now I know!:yllol: I'm laughing!
