:smile:what is the protocol for the weekends now? Do they have time to themselves or are they still limited due to the fact that their candidates? Can they leave campus?

Weekend liberty

The plebes will have very limited time off on weekends for the most part, if at all. Sometimes they will have liberty from Sat afternoon (after regimental duties/training on Sat morning) until 11 p.m. on Sat evening - not really enough time to get to NYC and back. Some Friday nights are spent cleaning for hours getting ready for early morning inspection on Sat. We live fairly close to the academy, within 25 minutes, and our DS rarely came home. Sometimes that was his own choice since he felt that he was better off staying at KP on Friday night even if they had Friday liberty, doing some studying and then getting in more studying on Sat and Sun. He thought that coming home was too distracting with friends, TV, etc. and he was better off staying at KP. The plebes were very restricted last year with the new liberty policy and in fact all classes had their liberty cut down from previous years. It will be interesting to see if the new superintendent continues with this same liberty policy. Occasionally we would go out there and take him to dinner for just a few hours. But that is all OK if he is doing well with his academics. The worst feeling for parents is when you get that call that they think they are failing several subjects and everything looks very bleak. That's when parents must be prepared to give just the right amount of support without falling prey to the depressing tone on the other side of the phone - and it happens to all of them.

P/Cs will not get "liberty" per se until after Acceptance Day. however, they will most likely have a decent amount of unscheduled time on campus to do whatever they wish to, within the usual limits:wink: tomorrow is the 5k run, followed by a working inspection. after that, the P/Cs will most likely be free, but i cant say for certain. sundays i believe are free from colors until the PKT at 1900.

Midshipman's 5K

It is a free run. The company that has the BEST 5 times (including one female) wins phone privileges!

Mine certainly didn't win phone privileges! haha. He said he did a 23 something. For him, I guess that was good.

I would take 23 something any day of the week. That's less than 8 minute miles for 3.12 miles. Not bad, but definitely wouldn't be the fastest given some of the track/cross country folks that run faster than should be allowed.

As a parent of a plebe and ran the 5k run sat at 0800hrs.it was a great time for all. Your DS/DD ALL enjoyed the run thru Kings pt.I took my 15yr od son and he ran with his big brother the whole time,as for me I lagged behind but finished well for my group (let's just say over 40 something)I was impressed with ALL the midshipmen and plebes ,and also spoke to so many on run, we as parents should be Proud of Our Sons and Daughters, they truly are a The Best of their generation! This was also a stress free event with Smiles on everyones faces. Thank you should go out to KP Alumni for hosting event

I will make this run every year now:thumb:

Being my son DOESN'T run, he hates to run, he decided to pace himself with someone in his company that does run 5K's. He said it wasn't so bad afterall. I am proud of him for doing things he doesn't like to do and going to one of the hardest schools around.
