Has anyone heard from their PC yet today? I was wondering if it will be the same 5 minute Sunday call now that Indoc is over. It's been great to be in touch electronically, but I'm looking forward to hearing his voice so am staying close to home waiting for the call.

What company is he in? 2nd COMP. is allowed 1200-1800. 4th COMP. lost their phone time this weekend...

I doubt they will get more than a 5 or 30 minute call. 2nd Company won as fastest company resulting in phone priveledges for the day. I do not see 1st company outside on the lawns with their cell phones.

So each company has to win each week in order to get phone priveledges? Or does it change how they get those priveledges? Just would like to go to church but don't want to miss his call either. Can you at least tell me if phone calls from now on, if they get them, will be after lunchtime? or do we have to wait all day as before?
thanks,

Phone privileges are just that, privileges. It will vary from week to week. It will vary from company to company. If they do something wrong, they can lose their phone privileges for the week. If they do something well, they may get extra time. It's impossible to predict. It is not a guaranteed minimum like during Indoc. Things will gradually start to loosen up. But the timing will depend on many factors.

I know it's hard. Believe me, I've been there. And I've got a DD who refused to let me friend her on Facebook and doesn't write emails. This is practice for when they are at sea for months on end and you hardly ever hear from them. This is nothing compared to facing A split and knowing you won't see your DD for two consecutive holiday seasons. The best thing you can do is find something to keep yourself busy so you are not obsessing over every possible phone call. Go to church! If they can't get through, they will most likely get to call again a little later. But please don't spend all of your time hanging anxiously by the phone. It really only breeds more anxiety.

Take a deep breath and know that you did a great job preparing them to be strong, independent young people. They're fine and you will be too, even if it doesn't feel like it right now.

Our DS is in the 2nd company. We just were able to talk to him for 90 minutes. All 2nd company parents owe a debt of thanks to the 2nd company's top racers in the 5K race.

Advice well given

The advice KPMum2012 has given is the best advice any parent who has "been there done that" could possibly give. I remember how difficult it was but have a little faith and take a step back. If you are on the edge now and it's only the first of August; just wait for "The Dark Ages" (2nd trimester) you'll never make it!!

Thank you for your Words of Wisdom, KPMum! What would we do without you veteran parents to gently bring us back to our senses so we can remember to keep living our lives...I'm now going out to enjoy this gorgeous day:)

Just got the call around 2:45...so I hadn't left the house yet. My son is in 1st Company & was able to talk 15 minutes. Sounded good & more relaxed than in previous calls. Now I'm really leaving to enjoy what's left of the day :thumb:

Mine, who is also in 1st company, called and all three of us got to talk to him even though we communicate through Facebook. It was nice to hear him laugh. Got to see him on the live feed as well. That was nice. Dad, mom and sister spoke to him on my speaker phone.

thanks,

It's a one time thing for the Midshipman's 5k. There will be many more chances to get extra phone time as a reward for various achievements, some major, some minor.

phone calls

My son is in 3rd company. He got a longer phone privilege today. I was able to talk long enough to get all my questions answered. He was then even able to call his dad and talk to him. 3rd Co. must have been good this week.:thumb:

Phone Call

Our son is also in 2nd Company. We were able to talk for 90 minutes it was so good talking to him. Amazing how much he talked being he is not much of a conversationalist. We also got a lot of questions answered. I feel so much better about things knowing that he is doing and adjusting very well.
