Cookie Cafe

Wow. Thanks for the info. This is something I would love to do.
I only wish I lived closer so I could help in the cafe!

Would like to send a check instead of using paypal, could an address and whom to make the check out to be posted. DS is going to sea Thursday but will be home to eat his share of the cookies in November. We would like to see cookie cafe continue. I ditto that I wish I lived close enough to help out each week

Proudmomcolorado,
I will ask a friend of mine that helps put Cookie Cafe together weekly and try to gt you an answer.

Thank you so much for your interest in helping Cookie Cafe! I will post the name and address to whom checks can be mailed later this eve as soon as I have it correct. A sincere thank you to all!

If you PM me, I have the address to where you can send a check. The address should not be posted here.

Thanks for being willing to help Cookie Cafe continue. It is truly a wonderful gift that the Guests and others give so freely to our mids. I have been fortunate enough to be able to help and it has always been a blast. The mids are SO appreciative! I might spend a total of 10 minutes w/ my DS between classes and practice but that's ok~it's just the icing on the cookie!

I spoke to the treasurer of Cookie Cafe to be sure those who wanted the address had the right individual and the correct address. I will PM anyone interested the correct name and address. I would not have posted on the forum although I realize that is what my last post may have indicated.
Many thanks again:smile:

I would like to send a check also my DS loved and enjoys the cafe each week. Do we know why they lost funding also if there was a donation box many mids I am sure would kick in. I know mine certainly would!!!

Do we know why they lost funding

[start pure speculation]

I would bet this is yet another issue with NAF (non-appropriated funds) or something of the sort. The Academy and those groups that support it are quickly learning what money can and can't be used for.

[end speculation]

That's a shame if true.

The Cookie Cafe seems like something that should fall under "Midshipman Welfare" and would be able to receive donations/support from the Chapel without running afoul of the law.

I hope the parents step up (I know they will) and keep it going, or perhaps the Alumni association could help with the funding.

[speculation on again] Perhaps there is some kind of liability issue with peanut allergies or some other issue that involves possible lawsuits, or health department permits, etc?[speculation off]

Please hold on about Cookie Cafe. The National Parents Association is looking into this.

The "funding" they were getting was support from the Chaplain. The current Chaplain is being replaced by another Chaplain so not sure what will happen.

In the meantime, I know that options are being reviewed by all. Keep checking the http://www.kpcookiecafe.com web site as well as the national parents website for updates!

cookie cafe is suppose to start on 16 September.

I am happy to help out with the funds, I was just wondering if there is a way to get this info out to all parents because not everyone uses these forums. I am sure that most families would be more than happy to help out. I just want to say thank you to all the volunteers that take the time to make their day.

sorry did not intend to veer off and have everyone speculate. Should we send money of wait?

Facts to clarify about Cookie Cafe

Cookie Cafe was started by me some years back as a way to encourage the students. The costs were covered by my husband's paycheck. Cookie Cafe got bigger and bigger and my husband retired. At that point the Chapel took over funding Cookie Cafe. To learn more go to www.kpcookiecafe.com. Also if you go to Google and type in "Kings Point Spotlight Cookie Cafe" you will get an idea what it's like. (it's a cute presentation) We have Cookie Cafe on Thursdays 1-5pm averaging 300 mids a week and going up to 475 on an afternoon. It is very popular on campus and a place to relax and rejuvenate for the students.

The Chapel funds are low as there are fewer weddings and the donations have gone down, so the Chapel is no longer able to pay for the costs.

Most of the costs are covered by the wonderful donations of homebaked cookies by the parents. The costs at KP are for coffee, beverages, ingredients to bake on Thursdays, paper goods, cleaning and other supplies. All costs have been documented with receipts and invoices. We buy what is needed, and hand in the receipts to account for every penny. Then we are reimbursed for the costs.

Cookie Cafe is not an organization. It's just an expression of love by a group of Moms (and other relatives) to encourage the midshipmen so they can do well. It is our way of communicating love to the mids in a very practical way that they understand and get the message.
