Hi,

I would like to branch AG in the Army once I commission and would like to ADSO so my chance if getting AG would be higher. My question is, AG is one of the donors branch, if I ADSO, will I still be consider for branch detail and if yes, how likely will I be get selected and what advices can you give me to lessen my chances of being branch detail?

Thank you

The first and most important question is why you have your heart set on AG. So, why?

If you are in the position where only one job in the army will make you happy, I'll tell you right now that your time in the Army will be fraught with disappointment.

AG is my first choice. Most people have a preference of what they like to do in the Army and is good at doing it. AG is something I know I will be good with but that doesn't mean I'm not open to other branches. I'm just simply doing my job as a cadet to go ask questions and find answers that will help me achieve my goal. If you know the answer to my question (will ADSO take you away from having branch detail or not?) then please let me know. I appreciated.

Yes, we understand it's your first choice. The question is why. What do you believe the average AG officer does on a daily basis?

AG in the army act the same as human resources in the civilian world. AG is a Combat Service Support branch of the Army. Their tasks include tracking awards and promotions, maintaining personnel records, providing secretarial and clerk support, and handling mail. Their mission is to help build and sustain combat readiness through planning, operating, and managing all military personnel activities. And today, one of the most critical AG wartime functions is postal operations. Timely delivery of mail to soldiers and their families is crucial to sustaining morale and fighting capability. I am also working towards my personal human resources (PHR) degree through SHRM, as well as, e-learning training through AKO. I know this will give me an advantage over the others but unfortunately, this doesn't go on my OML. So my question again to you is, once I ADSO, will there still be a chance I will have to branch detail? Please understand that I am not just looking at AG but I prefer not to work as field artillery officer. However, once I do my best in looking at resources that will help be branch AG and I am still branch detail, I will most definitely understand the situation and assist the army needs. The concept of "not getting what you want but is need in the army" has already been clear to me when I joined ROTC. Again, if you know they answer to my question, I sincerely hope you can clarify it for me. Thank you
