2 1/2 year job vs. Clubs

Well, my situation pretty much simple, but I have a few questions. I have had a great, steady job for 2 and a half years now, during school and during summer. I love my job and love working for my own money. But, this also inhibits my ability to take leadership positions in school clubs. Right now, I do hold the position of Treasurer in the Spanish Club, and I am members of many other clubs (Beta Club, Spanish National Honor Society, Class of 2011 Executive Board, and some others). I also hold a leadership position in Civil Air Patrol. So my questions are:

1) Does the Academy take into consideration that I do have a job and I work 3 out of the 5 school days during the week?

2)If I were to take another leadership position in another club, I believe that I would not be able to do my best because of my work schedule. So, should I still go out for one and try my best, or should I just keep my schedule and resume the way it is right now?

Thank you so much for any suggestions and comments!:smile::thumb:

1. yes

2. if you show dedication in one specific thing.. thats good too.

I would stick with your job; it shows great commitment that you have been working for 2.5 years. Working, especially during the school year, is a strong extracurricular and shows great time management skills.

If you truly believe you would not be a successful leader in another club, then don't do it. You would be harming yourself, by not performing to the best of your ability, and your subordinates which you will have responsibility for. Do not choose to be a leader to fill a box; only become one if you want to put your heart into something.

Quality over quantity.

Thank you both for the advise! AVT, it is not that I dont want to take responsibility, I just do not want to become overwhelmed with so much stuff to do, like AP work, after school job, homework, clubs. On the other hand, I do want to strengthen my application a little. But, like you said, I do not want to take leadership positions just to fill in boxes.

I feel a little differently here.

I would try to move your work schedule around- maybe cut back a few days a week or just work on the weekends. A job is good, but clubs and other activities prove that you work well with other people your age.
