I am seeing a number of activities listed for Homecoming Weekend 9/24-26 on the regimental calendar. Are parents who live locally allowed to attend these events? I realize the football game is probably open to anyone who wants to attend but I see Beat Retreat is scheduled for 0930 on Saturday in O'Hara. Is it open to anyone? And what is the Plebe Candlelight 142 Ceremony on Friday?

Is there a place where more information about these events is published?

In almost reverse order:

"Is it open to anyone?"

Yes, of course on Saturday evening there are parties for each of the "Reunion Classes" (Classes who graduated 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, etc. years ago) that are basically just for those Classes. Those Classes also have tailgate areas setup for what basically amounts to themselves in traditional tailgate areas like the McNulty Campus. For "Non-Reunion Class" attendees there are other bigger open areas, so other than that it's basically wide open. Of course it is indeed one of the few weekends, perhaps the only one, where Alumni on campus outnumber members of the current regiment and their families and friends so there is always a lot of "old home week" sort of stuff and rehashing of old sea stories, etc.

"And what is the Plebe Candlelight 142 Ceremony on Friday?"

It is a candlelight ceremony out by the monument in front of Wiley Hall which commemorates the "142" and other USMMA Graduates who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of our country. As you can imagine, it is a very special and important event for those members of "War Year Classes" when they return to campus for homecoming. From what I've seen it can also be a pretty moving event and bonding moment for the current Plebe Class as well.

So: Yes parents and others who live locally can attend those events and the others listed ... of course it will also be a special weekend because the USMMA-USCGA Football Match-up is always a treat - Go Mariners!

So you guys are going to have your Homecoming up at the Coast Guard Academy this year? That should be interesting..:shake:

USCGA vs KP

Sorry guys, Coast Guard is this weekend and is an away game. Homecoming is the following weekend.

Actually, Homecoming weekend is September 24, 25, & 26. And it is a fun time for all...alumni, parents, friends, family, etc. All are welcome!

My bad but why not? Anywhere you have more than three Kings Pointers you can start a great party and being that many of us are basically the most affluent "homeless" and/or nomadic peoples on the planet how important is it really that we be at Home to have our Homecoming after all?

Besides any time, anywhere that we get to watch the Mariners pound on "Da Bears" is cause for a really solid party as well...

Of course the reality is we regular guy merchant mariners would all likely be more at home in the working mens bars outside the gates of Electric Boat across the the river in Groton drinking with the "hoi-poloi" than over in snotty, prim and proper New London with the higher class Connecticut Yankees....
