Discovery Channel show about US Army Ranger School

anyone know where I can watch this online? I really wanna see this show we dont get discovery channel up on the hill. Thanks!

Tonight's episode on Surviving the Cut is the Air Force Pararescue Team's turn at making your head spin!

The Marine Recon is on tonight. It comes off a lot easier than it really is (well I haven’t done it so I am just assuming). I talked to somebody about the PJ episode, and he said he was surprised anybody COULDN’T finish their training. The episodes aren’t long enough to really show how hard all the training is. I wish they had focused on one of the classes and made a full season about them, and the next season would be about a different training. So like the first season would follow a class of PJ candidates through the Pipeline, the next would be Marine Recon etc. I think they could have done Rescue Swimmers too. since they have a few Navy or Marines, and no Coast Guard. But given the time period they have, I think it was made very well. Its very informative, and it shows the differences between all of them well. Overall I think its a great show, but could be better.

Discovery did the "follow the class" through thing with a SEAL class in around 2002. It was 3 eps long. The shows are interesting but I would like to see more about what makes each different -- right now it seems like lot of PT, etc. And there clearly are differences. For example, it would have been interesting to see SOME of the medical training the PJs go through.

Yeah, definitely. But that is because of the time constraint I think. They tried to portray the difficulty of it, and it was only indoctrination course, and I think the medical things come a little later in the Pipeline.

The "problems" with this series are that: (1) after awhile, it all looks the same -- lots of brutal PT, crawling in the mud with your rifle, etc.; and (2) the viewer doesn't get to "know" any of the candidates so it's hard to "root for" someone and/or feel anything when they succeed or fail. The show also doesn't do a good job of distinguishing what makes a good PJ vs. a good Ranger vs. a good SEAL (or whatever). There are some commonalities and some differences -- none is made clear.

The 'Real Warriors" come later on.....

:yllol:

I don't know if you are joking or not, but the "Real Warriors" are the ones that try and make it into ANY special operations pipeline. That is some **** they all have to go through to help protect this country. Hopefully after college I can either get into Recon or PJs, and I know I would not appreciate such a comment. I have less than a year to decide which ROTC I want to do though =/

O, the roasting will be here soon. Might want to go look up tpg's background. He'd put anyone here to shame with what he has done and lived through for all of us. Watch your tongue.

Sage advice, but advice that goes both ways, paduan. There are a great many veterans on this forum, most of whose stories are totally unknown to you. I would perhaps be a bit hastier to declare one man's life to put all others "to shame."

Watch my tongue…roasting? If you clearly read my post it said “I don’t know if you are joking or not” you should have assumed that I was not bashing on TPG. Growing up with a father in Special operations in the USAF, many kids have picked on me and my decisions in life because of the fact that my dad was in the USAF. I do not question TPG’s background, I am merely stating that all services deserve equal respect, especially concerning special operation divisions/pipeline. It gets tiring hearing from immature kids that ____ sucks, ____ is better in high school when they haven’t gone through anything yet. You understand?

Squat and hold, airborne, before you get this thread locked down.

tpg was joking. You'll note the little laughing smiley at the bottom of his post. Secondly, I would advise you to cool your jets a bit and don't post in a forum with a chip on your shoulder. This was a very civil and light-hearted discussion and with a little patience and thought on your part, it can remain that way.

Before you respond, think about what you said and how it would sound from another perspective. "The 'real warriors' are the ones who try and make it into any special operations pipeline." There are a great many warriors in this country's past and present who have never spent a day in special operations. Real warriors who fought through places like Fallujah, the Karbala Gap, the Shah-e-Kot Valley, Sadr City and al Dora. Men and women who gave the last full measure of devotion to their fellow warfighters. They are no less deserving of the title "real warrior" than those who have found a home in special operations. So before you get so wound up at a perceived slight to your chosen brand of special operations, remember that your own opinions could be seen in that same unflattering light by those who made great sacrifices for their country outside special operations and earned the title "real warrior" with their sweat and bloodshed.

Scout, not a knock to you or any veteran. I chose a bit more colloquial wording for a subject that is touchy for many with no intent to have it be a comparison to another person's service. I will clarify then.

To say tpg's experience and sacrifice's are incredible and inspiring is an understatement. For someone unfamiliar in the forum to comment on his intentions without a 5 min check of his background from other posts he has made is irritating.

I totally agree with you and realized my mistake when stating special operations as "real warriors" when not putting that title to everyone who has served. Just last Saturday I was talking with a Chosin reservoir survivor in Quantico MCX Barbershop. I also apologize for my previous posts so feel free to ignore them.

To hornetguy, I apologize that I did not go and check his background, but if you can send me a link to it. I would love to read it. I tried finding it in the Introduction section, but he did not include his background.

Thank you
