Are Plebes allowed to come home that weekend? It shows that they could get liberty but I was wondering if anyone knew for sure about that weekend. Has anyone booked flights for that weekend?

According to my boyfriend, who is a plebe at the academy, they are allowed to come home  As long as they do not leave before last commitment on friday and are back in time as stated on the regimental calendar, then he said it was "guaranteed" liberty. So i'm praying he is right because I have already booked his flight

Our son was able to come home last year, but he had a sports event Saturday morning, so do check the sports schedules if your plebe participates in fall sports.

Home football game

There is a home football game the weekend of Columbus Day. Would I be correct in assuming the Plebe class needs to attend that game?

have your student check out the need to be there for the football game. Also, now the Plebes can actually get restrictions, so make sure that has not happened either. Our son's plebe year, we went up to KP to visit just to be on the safe side.

In talking with my son about this, he has said they have to ask permission for Liberty that weekend. I'm glad I haven't bought a ticket.

My ds said he thought he was going to have to stay until after the football game on Saturday. Still waiting for confirmation.

Has anyone received a definitive answer about Plebes having liberty for Columbus Day weekend? My DS would love to come home, but he isn't sure if they are required to attend the home football game. How do we find out for sure?

Be Cautious

Before you make too many plans, be aware that things at Kings Point can change at any time without notice. For example, one company right now has had all liberty secured until someone confesses to vandalism in the head. This situation may or may not change by Columbus Day. Semper gumby!

agree

Yes, that is correct, my dd is in that company and there is no liberty for anyone including upperclass at this time and no guarantee of anything for that weekend. I booked my flight to go up and see her.

Liberty @ home on Columbus Day Weekend if you have to burn a special lib to do it?

Seriously, no way ... if it's going to cost a special liberty this is where any self respecting Kings Pointer/Sailor should be spending Columbus Day...

Check out the pics of past year's events here:

Too bad one of the company's is restricted .... never too many sailors in Miami for Columbus Day ....

I agree! And it looks by the final results for the Shields Trophy this last weekend, KP might need a bit of sailing practice..

Final scores:
1. Cal Maritime (wins on a tie breaker) 1,2,1,6 (10)
2. Navy 3,1,5,1 (10)
3. Coast Guard 2,4,4,2 (12)
4. Maine Maritime 4,3,2,1 (13)
5. St. Mary's 9,5,3,3 (20)
6. Mass Maritime 5,6,7,10 (28)
7. Kings Point 8,9,6,5 (28)
8. NY Maritime 6,8,8,9 (31)
9. Army 7,7,9,8 (31)
10. Royal Military Academy 11,10,10,7 (38)

Well at least you guys beat the Domers...

Now? I was on restriction for my class' first Plebe Liberty. I remember heading to a restriction muster as my classmates returned. I look back on it now feeling that I just saved myself one of many hangovers. . . . .

CMAKIN: was drinking age 18 at that time? My DS mentioned that the only thing his uniform was getting him was the possibility of drinks. If they are under 21 but in uniform, do the bars, restaraunts, clubs, whatever look the other way and serve them anyway. I didn't ask him if he drank anything and don't know if he would have told me. I do know that he didn't drink while he was here and this, being his first year, was just wondering.

Oops, I just saw this. Yeah, the drinking age in NY was 18 back then. I imagine that it might be a bit different now. Once he starts sailing, most of the countries that he will visit will not question his age if he wants a drink.
