Am looking at the Academic Calendar to try and determine final exams before Christmas vacation and all it's done is bring up more questions. What is MAPRs? What is CoMPRs? and What is Academic Reserve?

I agree, those calendar's aren't super helpful. I've decided to wait until my Mid can tell me his last day of finals before I change any reservations from the last day of exams (the 21st of December). I still have confilicting info on when they have to return to the yard, I've heard the 7th of Jan, but Anchor Dates on USNA states the 6th, and Plebe says "honestly, I have no idea" so he's no help at the moment!

Still trying to find out what MAPRs and CoMPRs is? Academic Boards?

my Plebe called yesterday and said his last final is Friday, December 17, EARLY NAVAL ACADEMY MORNING......

My plebe has last final on Monday, December 20, early AM. Can we assume she will not have any military obligation after that?

(Yes, I know what happens when you assume.)

Last year, and again this year, my son's professors rescheduled finals to earlier dates ... allowing the mids to come home a day or two earlier ... this year his last final was to be Dec. 20 ... it is now Dec. 16 ... so I booked him home on the 17th ... I'm told, that while not a guarantee, if there are other obligations such as schedule watch, mids can and do trade out so those living far away can get home ... we're west coast, so that helps us tremendously because in order to get back on Jan 7 by the appointed time ... our son actually has to return on Jan 6 ... a day early ....

I may not get the acronyms exactly right, but I believe that MAPR stands for "Midshipman Academic Performance Review." MAPRs & CoMAPRs (I believe this one is at Company level) are essentially an academic performance reviews. I may be incorrect, but I believe that MAPRs apply to Mids with borderline academic performance in preparation for academic review boards, or "Ac boards."

"Academic reserve" I believe is what is often called "6 weeks" or "12 weeks." IOW, mid-term exam weeks. During those weeks the upper class are restricted in the amount of "training" they can require of Plebes.

2012mom is correct about MAPRs.

Company and Battalion Officers submit their inputs into the online comments, from the military performance and potential perspective, about a particular mid identified as being academically unsat - an internal admin due date. This can range from "Midn 4/C Jones has struggled academically, but is a hard charger in the company and is satisfactory in all other military and professional requirements. He has the potential to succeed; recommend retention." Or, it can be comments at the other end of the spectrum, for those who are circling the drain on a number of gradable fronts. For those parents who have a plebe in academic trouble, if they are otherwise doing well, USNA typically does everything they can to ensure success through a range of options.

Academic reserve further means to be wary of scheduling anything that will cut into available study time, such as a Forrestal Lecture or non-critical but mandatory briefings.

Usually the last exam is the LMO, last military obligation, and they are free to check out on leave. Plebes should always check what the procedure is in their company as well as current regs. They will figure out how it all works.
