Mocs noms and NAPS

Is it possible to get accepted to NAPS and not have a MOC nomination?
 
dpt135, what's more, if one is fortunate enough to receive a NAPS selection, the MOC Nomination process is 'streamlined' somewhat. You can find past posts on this topic if you search.
 
dpt135, to be clear, an MOC nomination is not required for selection to the SA Prep schools, however, your goal is an appointment to a Service Academy. Therefore, the MOC nomination requirements does not go away, it just gets differed. You will eventually need one (assuming one maintains that goal).

Preferred but not mandatory. Falling under the mandate of pursuing all nominations for which one is eligible. NAPs grads are in the Naval Reserves and, therefore, eligible for the SecNav nomination.
 
If someone is at NAPS now in X district, does that basically mean that said person will take the spot for X district?
 
Thanks for the info. Yes-I am working to finish all my MOC applications. They are all due this month and I am almost done! Goal is a direct appointment and know I need a nomination. NAPS would be a very acceptable plan B.
 
Mongo, that's correct. I knew that but it slipped my mind. Although it's not any more guaranteed than the MoC nomination it is a new eligibility category. NavSec nominations are selective also and fewer available than NAPS seats by about half.
 
wouldn't you need a nom. since they select cand.s for NAPS from the people that got an appointment to USNA and didn't get in and to get an appointment you need to have a nom right? :confused:
 
Nominations

There is no application for NAPS, you are considered for NAPS once your Academy app is submitted. In order to apply to the Academy you are required to apply for a nomination. If accepted to NAPS, and successfully graduate you will resubmit for a nomination upon graduation (even if you had one coming to NAPS a year prior).
 
I thought nominations were good for two years. If you had one prior to NAPS, would it not still be good?
 
simple answer, No. The current Midshipman Candidates at NAPS just went through their 2010 nomination interviews.

Noms are only good for one year. Some MOCs may choose to give someone a nom for two years in a row -- and may, at his/her discretion -- not require full submission of new paperwork. But that's up to the MOC and he/she must submit a new/separate set of names each year.

Your medical qualification is good for 2 yrs, if nothing substantial changes.
 
NAPS

It is good to know that someone could be offered a NAPS acceptance without a nomination. I thought there is "no hope" except for reapplying. We are still waiting for congressional nomination (had a NO answer from the 2 senators). If one does not get a nomination at all, when would would he likely receive a NAPS offer? I heard that NAPS is a great preparation/program.
 
NAPS IS a great preparation program.

Thanks to NAPS, my 1/C Mid was able to waive the dreaded Plebe Chemistry, which allowed him to take other classes. That helped him earn enough credits to qualify for VGEP, so the Navy is helping to pay for a master's degree @ Johns Hopkins Univ before his active duty begins.

I understand some applicants have already heard from NAPS, but I don't think my son heard until late Feb of his sr yr of h.s. Don't give up. Never give up!
