I am a bit confused regarding the Prop and Wings Insignia which 4 digs receive at recognition. Somewhere I heard there are special ones for cadets whose grandparent served in the Army Air Corps. Does having a grandparent who was a pilot in the regular Air Force count as well, or are they simply honoring service in the older Air Corps?

From the Cadet Sight Picture:

Note: Prop and Wings Device. Upon authorization from the Commandant, cadets are authorized to wear the standard chrome plated prop and wings device on their flight caps. Cadets who are direct descendents of members of the Army Air Corps, Women Air Force Service Pilots, have a parent with at least 20 years of military service, have a parent that participated in combat as a member of any U.S. military service, or a parent that died in the line of duty are authorized to wear the gold prop and wings device. Cadets may shine the device but must not otherwise modify it (bending or sweeping the props).

The "special" prop & wings are no longer all gold; they are now gold wings with a chrome prop.

Similar to the Army Aviation branch insignia, as well as that of the Army Air Corps. It's nice to see them pay respect to their big brother :thumb:

My dad was in the Army Air Corps during WWII, but I could find only his uniform patch, not any actual paperwork signifying such.

Honesty

I think this is an Honor thing. We have pictures of my father in his Army Air Corps uniform we have his patches and his stories, but I would not even know where to look for any paper work.

Never the less, Grandpa was in the Army Air Corps in WWII. So my son wears the “special” Prop and Wings. I know that it makes my son proud and links him (in his current role as a USAFA cadet) to his Grandfather in a special way.

If you need paper work let me know, but I am pretty sure it is a simple salute to those who came before us and not like a rank or any other device that pertains to personal service.

Don't fake it, DO NOT wear it if it is not real, but do they need proof? Or simple honesty?

So related to nothing...

In the SE stairwell, is there still the CS34 patch painting done by Tracy Murakami?

From page 25 of current AOG parent handbook, which I know is not official, official, but usually has it's stuff correct:

Silver Prop and Wings are worn on the flight cap after the near-completion of cadets' fourth class year. Cadets who are direct descendants of members of the Army Air Corps, Women Air Force Service Pilots (WASPs), or USAFA graduates who honorably served are authorized to wear the Gold Prop & Wings.

You can also wear it if you had a family member serve in combat or with 20+ years of service.

To get the silver and gold "Prop and Wings" - is there a special form that has to be filled out?
