MOC interview date came today! I am the first one due to my last name...do all MOC interview every applicant or do they screen them first?

All depends on the MOC. Also depends on physical reality. I.e. If a particular representative only had 15 applicants total, they probably COULD interview every one of them. On the other hand, if a representative had 125 applications, they probably couldn't physically interview that many. You have to realize that there are on average, 10,000 applicants to the air force academy. With 453 representatives; assuming they were all equal, that would be a little more than 20 applicants each.

So many of the representatives and even senators will have their staff pre-screen the applications. Some will rank their applicants with a combination of GPA + SAT/ACT + Sports + Leadership. They will then interview the top "X" number of applicants.

This is just an example. The MOC can do whatever s/he wants to do. Interview all; pre-screen; only look at records and no physical interview; etc... It's totally their choice.

Depends entirely on the MOC. Some grant interviews to everyone who applies. Some screen. Some don't do interviews at all.

Being granted an interview is never a bad sign but it may or may not be a good sign, depending on your MOC.

MOC interview date came today!
What state are you in? We are in PA and received a letter today from one Senator scheduling an interview next week (on the other side of the state), and a phone call today from the other Senator's office scheduling a phone interview for next week. Fortunately not the same day.

Good Luck on your interview! :thumb:

We're lucky in that our senators work together. My son has both of his this Sunday, at the same campus (about 1.5 hours from our house), just in different buildings scheduled about 1.5 hours apart. Strangely then our congressman's interviews aren't until Dec. 11 so I guess he has a long break between them! ;)

To the OP - I agree a lot depends on the location. Our senators said last year that they interviewed about 110 for all the academies total out of all that they received (no idea of if that was 112 or 300). But our congressman only had 11 apply total and interviewed all of them (well, actually they said they had 12 but one didn't respond or show up for the interview). My son had a friend from Colorado Springs who said his Congressman (!!) had nearly 400 applications to USAFA alone - said he had 5 days of interviewing all evening (well, his staff, not him personally). So definitely can be some big differences.

All depends on the MOC.

We are from one of the very competitive states. Last year when my son was applying, our Congressman interviewed everyone with a completed file. Senator #1 only interviewed the top 20 candidates for each of the Service Academies (which were pre-screened by his academy board). Senator #2 did not do interviews at all.

I can tell you that our Congressman and Senator #1's Academy Boards were in contact with one another. DS interviewed first with the congressman's board and then with Senator #1. We received a phone call from the Congressman's aide who said that Senator #1 was going to be nominating DS, therefore the congressman wasn't going to give him a nomination. (DS had an LOA contigent on a nomination only.) One week later, DS was surprised to see that he also got a nomination from Senator #2.

Bottomline, every state, every MOC is different.
