Application Process Question

Hi everybody!

First I would just like to say that I'm new to the forum and I look forward to having some of my questions answered as well as contributing to the community. Although I am a new member to the forum, I am not a new visitor. I have had many questions answered just by doing a simple search on this site. Everything I have seen has been very informative, and I have really enjoyed reading some of the responses.

I have been looking through the forum as well as searching through Google and emailing my ALO, but I can't find the answer to one question that was bothering me a little bit.

I have recently applied to USAFA and USNA, USAFA being my primary choice in a college (prospective class of 2015 candidate). I understand the LOA concept, but I had another question concerning the application process.

I know a kid in my high school who has already received two LOA's from USMA and USAFA. He's very qualified. I'm not necessarily seeking an LOA (yes ChristCorp, I've been reading your responses to "LOA" related post's. I don't want to bother you with another one ). I simply want to know if USAFA gives out acceptance letters (not LOA's) before March.

I just wanted to find out the answer to this question for some piece of mind. I know that I need to stop thinking so much about my application now that it is submitted, but for some reason I keep checking my status. If appointments are handed out from November thru March, then I will most likely keep checking my application through out the day . Nothing wrong with being curious, right? However, if I learn that there are no appointments given out other than Letter's of Assurance/Acceptance until March, then there really isn't any reason for me to check my status everyday after school.

I've bounced around quite a bit in my post. The question that I'm curious about is this..

Other than Letters of Assurance/Acceptance, does USAFA accept anybody before March?

Thanks for taking the time to read my lengthy post. I definitely appreciate the input from a very knowledgeable source. Thanks!

Yes,

There are quite a few appointments given out before March. With that being said, if you don't get one before March, do not give up hope (they still have more than half left). I got mine in January and some other people on this site have gotten them as early as November (remember you must have a nomination to get a full appointment so many people with early appointments have a presidential nomination).

Later,

Brian

Thanks for the quick reply.

I live in South Dakota and nominations come out in late December. So I guess I can just kind of forget about it until then!

Once again, I appreciate the quick response.

Very good question. As Brian mentioned, they definitely give out appointments before March. The academy doesn't receive all their applications in September. Some come all the way up to the deadline after January. And the academy will give Appointments and LOA's all the way through from October til the final selections in March/April. LOA's generally stop about the time nominations are done; around Christmas. There might be a couple more, but generally, LOA's are usually conditional on getting a nomination. All other areas are usually covered. Once nominations are out, there's no real need for an LOA.

There's no way to give an exact number, but based on the running posts of who got what and when, I would say that approximately 400 +/- of LOA/Appointments, will be given out between October and February. Then the majority of about 800-900 appointments will be given out in March/April. There's obviously a big surge of LOA/Early Appointments at the end of October/beginning of November. Then, there will be some more non-moc nom appointments for the next couple months. Then a few trickle in around January/February. And of course, the main influx around March/April. Best of luck to you. mike.....

Like me, I think. (Sorry don't mean to take over your question I was just really curious and this seemed like the time to ask) but on my status is said "appointment offered" does that mean I got the full appointment? I did get the presidential so does that mean that they used that? I haven't gotten my acceptence letter in the mail yet (Just found out Saturday) but my ALO said he saw it and said that there should be a formal appointment offer in the mail. (Sorry and again I do not mean to take over your question but I was just a little curious.)

Don't worry about it at all. From what I can tell and what I have picked up from similar post's, I would say that you have the appointment. If your online status changed to Appointment Offered, you have a nomination, and your ALO confirmed, I would say your pretty set. Congratulations! You got accepted to USAFA.

Yes, you have been offered an appointment. You should be receiving the BBE in the mail any day now. Congrats. Mike....
