Everyone is talking like it is a done deal that Navy will go the Poinsettia Bowl, now that they are bowl eligible.

Don't they have to get invited? What if they run the table and get invited to another bowl?

Navy had already committed to the Poinsetta Bowl should they become Bowl eligible. It's a done deal. Just got my email yesterday to buy tickets. Between the Emerald, the Poinsetta, and the Eagle Bank Bowl, we are probably committed for several more years. There are very few opportunities for non-BCS conferences' schools. CG is being proactive.

They have already been invited, and have already accepted.

(They have a contract with the Poinsettia Bowl organizers that mandates they play in the game this year if they are bowl-eligible.)

Thanks - found the answer on the Poinsettia Bowl website.

A contract between Poinsettia Bowl organizers and Naval Academy officials stipulates that if the Midshipmen were to post at least six wins and become bowl eligible this season, they would play in San Diego’s pre-Christmas bowl game.

Poinsettia Bowl Questions

Technically your right an invitation gets extended, however the Academy signed an agreement last year to play in this game. So, they are in. By the way if you can't go please consider donating tickets to Midshpmen or enlisted military. I just got off the phone with the ticket office, at Ricketts Hall and donated 4 tickets. I can't want until they sign an agreement with the Military Bowl (Eagle Bank Bowl), Washington DC. I will be there next time. It the least, I can do, because of everything these young men and women have done for this great country. Thank you all. I love you, all

I plan to be there.

However, the Emerald Bowl to which I was referring and to which Navy has commitments is in San Francisco. Navy last played there in 2004 when they beat New Mexico, 34-19. The highlight of the game was a Navy drive that lasted 26 plays, went 94 yards, ate up most of the 4th quarter (14 and 1/2 minutes), and only resulted in a field goal.

I just looked it up. It is now called the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl.

I plan to be there along with the graduate and the siblings. Maybe we can hoist a few. We can find a good Pub for the weekend on the banks of the Liffy:thumb:

additional question

Now that the Mids are playing in the Poinsetta Bowl, does anyone know if the D&B will also attend? Trying to figure out Christmas schedule and transportation for DS. Also have a sailor heading overseas in January and really hope the brothers can have as much time together as possible over the holidays.

No help I know, but my son was told for AF way back that whatever bowl they attended they would be required to attend. He was told the AF would make all the arrangements to have them flown out from home. Guess we'll see how it works here - I'll be interested to see what you find out first!

Yes, D&B will attend.

My Plebe reports that the flight home can be directly home from San Diego - not having to go back through DC.

Just clarifying my post since I guess I confused some AF parents - my response was meant just for the members of D&B. I didn't realize this was a continuation of a thread and just clicked on the "new post" link and went right to the info about D&B so thought that was the focus - sorry!

Last year ... for the Texas Bowl on New Year's Eve, my then plebe son flew from our city to Houston and back ... the USNA eventually ... a couple of months later ... reimbursed his flight, hotel and food ... he did not have to fly through DC ... he is waiting to hear about compensation for this year's bowl game ... which, is on Dec. 23 ... which means coming home Christmas Eve ... not an easy or inexpensive day to get a flight ...
